“The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.”
― Terry Pratchett

Close enough.
Well, thanks to a little monkey-wrench of a wench called Sandy, I didn't cross 50,000 words on my NaNovel. Next year! But I'm having fun with the story. Let's see what I can do with it.

Oh dear me, I love that Pratchett quote. And Pratchett in general.
6London_StJ
Hrm?
7richardderus
Would you believe it was the ONLY image with "First Place" in it that wasn't, well, grotesquely Dale Carnegie-sales-contest-y? Fourteen pages I scrolled! Fourteen! And this was the best one.
*hangs head*
Do you want me to take it down?

13richardderus
OOOOoooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOoooh. Well, heh, maybe that's all to the good...heh
15richardderus
I thought that was a cool image, too, Joe.
16maggie1944
Hi! Postings #1 and #2 have images. Nothing imag-y after that.
Hope all is good, sorry the novel did not reach the word goal. Might be good regardless?

"spondulix" how cool is that (uh, er, from your review). it was one of my Dad's favorite words. gotta love it. and thanks for the warning re: animal realities at the bottom of the review. most thoughtful for the audio reader who can neither see these things coming nor skip them easily.

Can't see your #1 image either. But a lovely new thread despite that, especially leading off with the Pratchett quote!

>16 maggie1944: Nothing in post #5 for you, either? How weird, it shows up for me...huh.
I'll keep working on it, though "good" might be ambitious for a silly little rom-com.
>17 mirrordrum: I *love* "spondulix" both word and thing! I get lots of befuddled glances askance when I say it out loud. I didn't know it was as obscure as apparently it is.
I know several folks who don't do well with that sort of unpleasant imagery, and when I see something that gives *me* pause, I know a warning is in order.

Nice new thread here, Richard! Just grabbing myself a spot.

Hey RD! I LOVED your review of HOUSEKEEPING VS. THE DIRT! Big Thumb! I agree, I'm not a fan of excerpts either. I hope this gets you to read Sarah Vowell. I know you totally dislike (despise), Jess Walter but Hornby actually steered me into reading him and I like the guy.

Adding my thumb to your Hornby review. I've read one book by him, A Long Way Down which I liked but it was so long ago I can't remember how much. But I remember it - which means it stuck in my brain, always a good sign.
30EBT1002
Ah, well, that does make some sense. P can be pretty ferocious (although it's Abby to whom you should avoid turning your back).
31Matke
Lol at Rdear and Ellen. In his younger days, dh was scary as hell. Made life interesting. We're much quieter now. ;>)
32PaulCranswick
Read most things by Nick Hornby. Not high brow. Not low brow. Just Good.
Bit like your thread RD. Congratulations on number 29 and for blitzing through 40 odd posts while I had a short cat nap over here. I think the different time zones normally aids my keeping up but not this morning!

My, my, my such goin's on. What with flying kisses and smothering hugs; fiercely protective significant others; mellow aging processes; Pearl ruled books by the scores. This is simply an amazing place.
Great entertainment while I nibble away some Chinese take-out from the grocery store. Pellet stove is happily burning, doggie is sound asleep. It is a good evening!

Happy Friday and almost-weekend to you! I will be swamped this weekend, as the official move date is *drum roll* TOMORROW. But the reason I'm really telling you this is to remind you what that really means - when the library is set up, I'll be sharing some real-live book porn with you straight from the new house. ;) Give me a few weeks to get settled though...

I'm surprised rappers haven't gotten a hold of the word "spondulix". It rhymes with kicks, mix and dominatrix.

Happy Friday, Richard dear. Lollygagging a bit today. Probably should get up and dressed at some point today. Don't wanna.

Perusing the book reviews is exactly what I did, skipping all the T-day stuff, since I haven't yet reformed and become a cook again. I also found I was 138 posts behind on the previous thread! But all better now.
I might look into the Hornby reviews, especially if the books are on Kindle. Actually, I want to read all the books you reviewed (positively) on your last thread, but other books must be read first. Sigh.

I've determined to get to some of the "could be wonderful but probably won't be" books on my TBR piles this coming year. I suspect I will Pearl Rule a good many of them, and toss 'em in a donation box. They just take up too much room. Maybe I should create a ticker to keep myself motivated on that project.
54richardderus
>48 jnwelch:, 50 "Spondulix" is due for a resurgence. Get Jesse to start using it. Let's viral that puppy!
Thanks for upgethumbing the reviews. Hornby's criticism is good, and we're about to get another sample of his movie-making when he adapts the Cheryl Strayed memoir for the screen.

Hi RD,
Loving the top 2 images. That quote is one my mum would like, she aspires to be eccentric in her old age. (her words not mine!) I think its great. It also reminds me of my lovely other and his band. Their music can be...challenging... He reckons its better to have people walk out on a gig (which they do) than to induce no reaction at all. I love that he said that.

So I went to the liberry today, expecting to get a copy of Assassination Vacation. The online catalog was down all day Monday, causing me anxiety and nervous prostration as this means I am cut off from my main source of books.
Come to find out that the database upgrade has had the unpleasant side effect of causing phantom records to surface, phantom copies to show as available, and generally causing odd and unpleasant errors.
Assassination Vacation was checked out last week.
Wah.
I think I'll go knock Nick Hornby's review down a star. It's all his fault.

My very plan, also, this morning; but I'm tethered to a couple of "commitments". Going to the Apples store to get more educated on the tricks this Mac can perform; going to American Girl Dolls to order a birthday present for one little 4 year old who will be turning 5 in January. And then, if I'm lucky going to a wonderful nursery to meet a friend for gift exchange, and perhaps the purchase of a glorious Poinsettia plant. Then, home to read.... three day weekend looms.
I hope your weekend holds much reading time, few aches and pains, and sufficient joy to keep your happiness in place for a few more days!

Benign mind meld...exactly! I like the phrase. It's precisely what a book is, a mind meld with another being, sometimes centuries dead.

Oh, I am just learning about Chrome. Dejah had told me a long ways back that I should only use Chrome with the library system down here, so I just downloaded it as I am about to explore what I can do online. So excited about that because our last library did not have any downloadable books or audio! Imagine my poor neglected Kindle feeling ever so left out of the library system.
71richardderus
Chrome is so very much faster and less cranky than IE it's nothing short of a revelation, and the single most fabOO thing about it is: AD BLOCKER!!! Go to the Chrome Store, enter "AdBlocker" in the search box, and download it instantly.
On every website the annoying banners and suchlike gubbins will be GONE!! *fantods*

It's hard to imagine 2013 is coming so fast. Would anyone else like to do a year-long challenge of one first-time author's collection of short stories a month? Authors of one's own choosing, but I'd start a thread over in the 75-Books Challenge each month with five or six suggestions and link to it here.
I need to keep up the short-story world's presence here on LT! Genres not important, just the short story format.
Oh, and if there's an author one wants to read (eg, Edith Pearlman) whose first book came out a while back, heave it in.
Anyone up for that?

I would be up for that - I would like to read more short stories next year, and that sounds like a good way to tackle it.

RD- I think that's a great idea, since I plan on reading at least one collection a month, anyway. I pulled it off this year and want to continue.
Only, first time authors? Even so, I have a bunch! (I copied this from the Group Read thread)
Are you going to select an author or collection a month, from the suggestions?

78richardderus
I figured I'd offer some ideas of first-time authors' collections each month, but I'd see it more as a place to meet and trade opinions and reviews, with no planned group reads. Some would come about naturally, of course, and no one would be discouraged from group-reading, but it wouldn't be the focus of the thread.
I plan to host the thread in the Short Stories group that exists (!) already, to help keep traffic down. I'll post a link a month in the Group Reads threadbook.

Sounds intriguing, since I love short stories, but I hate to commit myself (if I'm going to be committed, someone else will have to do it). I think I'll just sit tight and wait for you guys to recommend stuff to me!

I am not really a fan of short fiction, but I'm sure a collection or two will end up on my TBR list thanks to you...

I've put up three January group/community read suggestions in the Short Story thread...mosey over and see if any one appeals, or leave a suggestion if none does.

Hi Richard, hope you are going to have a cosy weekend with Stella!
I got yesterday my copy of We Sinners and couldn't believe my eyes, because it is a deckle-edge edition which I absolutely adore. My flatmate requested already "first read" rights, so I will read it in the new year *smile*.

Richard, I loved the cartoon in post #36. I recently finished one of my top reads of 2012. I hated it to end. I highly recommend So B. It by Sarah Weeks.
Happy Sunday.

Richard, Karen Engelmann of The Stockholm Octavo will be giving a talk (and perhaps a reading?) at the U Bookstore this Thursday evening. I don't know that I'll be able to go, but I'm glad I put the book on hold based on your recommendation. Now that a review has been in the Seattle Times the hold list the library will explode.
94richardderus
>93 EBT1002: Oh, I really hope you can go! She's very likely to be an interesting speaker. Her choice of subject matter, Sweden and the liberal revolution, is just the tip of the iceberg! (Obligatory cold-frozen-north humor over.)
Why choose Tarot? Why tell the story in the format of redacted source materials? Oh, the fun to be had in a talk by her!

It's a different sort of humor than today's more slapstick brand, and I like it a lot.

Catching up again, darling Richard. Hasn't anyone devised some kind of a way to keep up with this place and real life? Or you know, just get paid to keep up with LT? Grump. At any rate, *smooches* to you, my favorite reviewer!

Speaking of slapstick humor, I saw that the Mark Sanchez Sunday Follies was taken off the air midway through this week's performance. Somehow a solitary TD pass by the third string QB was just enough for the Jets to eke out a 7-6 win over the equally inept Arizona Cardinals. Anyone who watched that game should be given a coupon for a free six month supply of Xanax.

Richard, I am finally making it over here. This has been a crazy week for me, but tomorrow is Friday and all I have to do is get my hair cut. Love making a big pot of something that tastes like comfort and relaxation.
I would love to spend some time in that NoMad room - no need to turn on any more lights. I could just sit there with a G&T and veg...

Dreadful day, lots of ouchness, and comfort food is only marginally helping. I made myself chili cheese fries, ate them and, while I've got a smirk on my face, I'm not feeling less knee pain. Large gout crystal out yesterday made it a wee bit less stiff, thank goodness.

24. Pearl Ruled: WHERE'D YOU GO, BERNADETTE? by MARIA SEMPLE
Rating: 1.6* of five (p97)
The Book Description: Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.
Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle--and people in general--has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands. A trip to the end of the earth is problematic.
To find her mother, Bee compiles email messages, official documents, secret correspondence--creating a compulsively readable and touching novel about misplaced genius and a mother and daughter's role in an absurd world.
My Review: I do not care where this stupid, whining woman went. I want her to stay there and remain anonymous.
Awful. Negative. Condescending to agoraphobics.
It's as noxious as Gone Girl, and cloaked in humor instead of viciousness it still makes me mad. Jonathan Franzen liked it, so did Garth Stein and Kate Atkinson. Note to self: When writers whose work you dislike intensely blurb a book, ignore the hype and avoid it.

But Donoghue was manipulating the horrible events without mercy. At this late date, I can't cite examples. What's left for me is the impression of being pulled by the nose-hairs into this room, shoved into a chair, and told to sit still while horrifying evil is perpetrated before my eyes.

DISLIKE! I so sorry to hear your knees are worse today. I'm appalled at the healthcare system that would force you to live with so much pain instead of doing the right thing and making sure you have the services and treatment you so badly need. Then again ... I wonder if someone could make a run to DC for you and bring back some medicinal ganja to numb some of the pain ....

Heh. If SOMEONE did, there would be a percentage of the take in it for them....

I really hate PAIN! My friend who has just recovered from Shingles and I were talking about what we could/would do to avoid chronic pain, and I don't think there were many things which would not fit on that list. I would do almost anything to avoid it.
I am so sorry you are living with some of that evil stuff today. Please, let the Universe give you a book or three which will distract your mind a bit, and then add some of the best tasting foods and drinks possible. Hopefully, the pain will subside.

A friend of mine and my sister have both had shingles attacks in the last several months. Husband just got the shingles vaccine. $219, not covered by insurance. Sigh. I'm debating about getting it too.
I hope the Christmas thing goes ... okay.... good.... well..... whatever you need.
Sorry, darling Richard, about the pain. Hugs and smooches to you from your own dear Horrible.

My goodness, hard to keep up with you! Liking the Stella and RD pics. Life is good, eh?
Enjoying the various book smackdowns, too, including of ones I've liked like the vicious Gone Girl. It does worry me that Jonathan Franzen was pleased by Where'd You Go, Bernadette, but I'll probably give it a shot anyway.

Title: THE GIRL WHO CIRCUMNAVIGATED FAIRYLAND IN A SHIP OF HER OWN MAKING
Author: CATHERYNNE M. VALENTE
Rating: 5* of five
The Book Description: Twelve-year-old September lives in Omaha, and used to have an ordinary life, until her father went to war and her mother went to work. One day, September is met at her kitchen window by a Green Wind (taking the form of a gentleman in a green jacket), who invites her on an adventure, implying that her help is needed in Fairyland. The new Marquess is unpredictable and fickle, and also not much older than September. Only September can retrieve a talisman the Marquess wants from the enchanted woods, and if she doesn’t . . . then the Marquess will make life impossible for the inhabitants of Fairyland. September is already making new friends, including a book-loving Wyvern and a mysterious boy named Saturday.
With exquisite illustrations by acclaimed artist Ana Juan, Fairyland lives up to the sensation it created when the author first posted it online. For readers of all ages who love the charm of Alice in Wonderland and the soul of The Golden Compass, here is a reading experience unto itself: unforgettable, and so very beautiful.
My Review: Magic is real.
Hello? Are you all right down there? Nothing broke in the fall, did it?
Magic, as I was saying, is real. Magic, not the stupid majgicqk of the boring nonillion-ologies of million-paged forest-rapers about the Queen of the Orc's long-lost son's Qwest to Fynd the Hynd or whatever. That shit should be banned. Or very very heavily taxed.
Ahem. Trying to find polite again.
So yes, September is magic, and Fairyland is magic, and Valente is a sorceress whose incantation is this book. The real deal, laddies and gentlewomen, le pur sang, descended from the right hand of the lawrd (which always sounded vaguely naughty to me, but I'm incurably low-minded). This YA fantasy novel is what y'all who need magic should aim yourselves towards like lodestones to the pole. Look no further, this is it.
Seriously, should I call someone? This falling down while gasping is a smidge alarming.
September is Ravished from her mother and her life, goes on a quest to find a Spoon for a Witch, meets the Magical Helper and overcomes the Magical Foe, and in the process saves Fairyland, grows into a wise woman, and goes home for a nap. That's the plot. Basic government-issue story.
So why am I, YA-averse and phauntaisee-phobic, giving it five stars? Because. It's magic. The real deal. Every one of us begins life in a universe of unbounded possibility and slowly but surely submit ourselves to the chains and locks and gears of adulthood. Fairyland, that state of unbounded possibility, recedes from us as each nasty rule and wicked, spiteful decision made by or against us does its grim work.
We use our unique, indescribable, polymorphous magic tools to sever and close and shut off, just as September is gulled into thinking she must do to uncouple Fairyland from reality, from our world of machines and banks and school. We're taught that the painful and nasty process is necessary, will save us and everyone we love, is right and just and correct. So most of us mangle and chop away, thinking the pain is growing up and growing wise and becoming adult.
Some few of us, like September, are given a moment of magic, and see the process for what it really is: Death with slow rotting, oblivion enough to be bearable but shot through with the awareness of the loss we've been tricked into suffering at our own hand. And some fewer still retain, magically, access to that other and better world. They come and they go, leaving us trapped souls for just long enough to be noticeably changed on their return, if we're sharp and attentive. Which, to my utter shock (not), most of us do not.
Valente's work, in the main, is polished prose telling interesting stories. Her adult tales will repay your reading time, and even (for many who Don't Read Such Things) be a revelation of quality work taking place in fields far from the ordinary haunts of dull adults. Seek that out, do, and firmly squelch the lip-curling until one full book has passed before your eyes.
But here? This? This is magic. The real deal. Approach it slowly, with a heart open and a mind clear, and it will enfold you in its warmly feathered, hard-muscled wings, and bear you away to that place you cut off so long ago. March in with your expectations set on stun, your ideas loaded like rocks in a slingshot ready to let fly, and your experience will resemble that of the US Army in Afghanistan: What hit me? Ow! Stop that! Ow!
I speak from (happily changed) experience.

I liked the review. The book will be bought by me. Now, on to the important stuff. I love Stella's name. I have images of standing on my front stoop letting loose with a great wonderful, "Stelllllllllllllaaaaaaaa"..... I just know the dog will come. How could she/he not? I am going to try really hard to not name my next dog "Stella". It would not be fair to our LT buddies.

I suspect I'll be spreading the threading out next year. I want to treat the Short Story collection challenge as a ticker-to-itself thread, thinking 36 reviews as my goal.
The 75 challenge, next year, will be non-fiction and non-genre-fiction books published in 2012 and 2013, plus recommendations from other 75ers.
I'm going to keep a mystery-genre thread over in Crime, Thriller, and Mystery forum, with a goal of 50 reviews.
Orphans will still catch all the other reading, over in the What Are You Reading Now? forum, like this year. Thinking 60 reviews as my target.
Altogether that's a target of ~225 reviews, and this year I'm on track for ~210. I think I can do it.

Wine, women and books. Or was that song? Well, I like books better.

Oh, and no rieslings please. Or tokay. *shudder*
258EBT1002
Well, the only rieslings I'll be serving up are the really good ones -- German and old. I do have a few in the basement (aka the cellar) that are pretty good. P is not a fan so I mostly drink them when on my own.
But no worries, I'll mostly provide pinot noir or good red blends from Washington, Italy, or France. Brunello, anyone?
tokay? oh dear. never.

Tokay is fancy talk for "Boone's Farm Kountry Kwencher."
Brunello yay! A good Sangiovese, a solid Viognier (I like hot-weather whites a lot)...some Veuve Cliquot and some Ca' del Bosco for bubbly.

What plane are you on?

Sorry to say that I skimmed some to catch up, but I love the photo of you and Lady Stella, and I'm sad and sorry that you're still hurting. Hoping that this week is better in that respect.
263mckait
Yep.. went with green sweater, black pants and soft shoes, exactly!
I can't say I wow'd anyone, but it was a good choice. I felt comfortable..

>262 scaifea: Hi Amber! Glad to see you, and Stella says woof.
>263 mckait: Good morning, dearest! Glad you chose wisely, and had a pleasant time.
Aches and pains not as prominent today. That's good news!

Stella is quite the lady, Mr. D. Love the picture of the two of you. (But, oh, those knuckle joints make ME weep---what they must do to you doesn't bear thinking about.)

>265 laytonwoman3rd: Oh thanks Linda3rd. They're playin' up today, too. *sigh*
Tree's up, and more amendment will be done. Place is decorated and looks lovely. I like Yuletide pretties!

Wonder whether there were weather gremlins around inflicting random aches & pains on us all this weekend? Nearly everyone I know who suffers from something -- MS, lupus, your stuff, my headaches -- was sideswiped.
Envy you the three. The one downside of cats -- or at least Tigger -- is that he would climb and then demolish any carefully-decorated tree I set up. And wreaths just aren't the same. They don't smell as gorgeous or look as fabulous. I haven't had a tree in nearly a decade...

Well, you'll see this one on xmas day. CM is sending the directions email this week, but I'll be amazed if it's not the 1:10 from Penn again.
So glad you're coming! *smooch* It's ham this year, with oyster stuffing. Lots of other stuff too, of course, but that's all my feeble brain can conjure up.
I strongly suspect your weather analysis is correct. It's just been a major slog, hasn't it.

THE CELTIC HOLIDAY TREAT OF THE DAY
Bailey's Irish Cream-Coffee Bars
yummy Irish coffee, in brownie-like form, but without the chocolate.
1 pouch DRY sugar cookie mix (1 pound 1.5 ounces)get this in the baking aisle--I use Betty Crocker's cookie mix, but you could use another brand
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup cold butter
1 egg
1 can sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated; 14 oz)
2 tablespoons Bailey's Irish cream liqueur
1 teaspoon instant coffee granules or crystals
TOPPING
1 cup heavy whipping cream
3 tablespoons packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon Bailey's Irish cream liqueur
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
25 cinnamon sticks (2 inch)
1.
Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray bottom and sides of 8-inch square pan with cooking spray. In large bowl, place cookie mix and pecans. Cut in butter, using pastry blender or fork, until mixture looks like coarse crumbs. With fork, stir in egg. Press half of cookie mixture in bottom of pan. Bake 15 to 18 minutes or until golden brown. Reserve remaining cookie mixture.
2.
Meanwhile, in small bowl, stir milk, 2 tablespoons liqueur and the coffee granules until well blended. Pour evenly over warm crust. Sprinkle reserved cookie mixture over top. Bake 25 to 30 minutes longer or until golden brown. Cool 30 minutes at room temperature. Refrigerate 1 hour to cool completely. Let stand 10 minutes before cutting into bars (5 rows by 5 rows). Store bars covered at room temperature.
3.
Just before serving, in small bowl, beat whipping cream, brown sugar, 1 tablespoon liqueur and the vanilla with electric mixer on high speed until soft peaks form. Top each bar with dollop of whipped cream; sprinkle with ground cinnamon. Insert cinnamon stick into each dollop of whipped cream. I've also served without the cinnamon, using shaved dark chocolate instead.

I snagged the recipe off FB and posted it here for xmas baking. Sluuuurrrrrp!

Baking? Baking? Oh, well, unfortunate me: do not imbibe any more so I'll pass, even though I know the alcohol cooks out.

Near occasion of sin and all that....
274Crazymamie
I am SO making those!! Thanks, Richard!

I'll PM you my address for my 50% commission, payable in bars of scrumptiousness.

That's fair.

I don't bake. I gave it up. I mean.. I don't really bake for Xmas. I order in.
Too much stress and mess... as long as there are cookies.. all is well.
rd.. I posted your pic at the top of my thread.

Wait! a cat? Oh, yeah, now I see it. I completely missed that one.

Seven kinds of cookies and four kinds of candies, and I'm calling my holiday baking done. It's not all I usually do, but it's all I'm willing to do this year.

#268 -- I didn't know that there was an Xmas dinner, or that I was coming, until earlier this morning! E-mail came complete with stealth warning -- ?????
I really do like that image, above. Reminds me of my grandfather's bookshelves.

I knew you sounded frazzled, but wowee toledo!

Knickknack?! Blasphemer! That is the Sacred Vessel from Which All Happiness Pours, the Mug! It is resting there while the reader selects a tome to carry back to the unseen wing chair for reading pleasure.
290jnwelch
LOL! Ah, I should have known. Although it sets off the books beautifully, sitting there on the shelf. Nice visual contrast.
291Crazymamie
I want that mug!
292richardderus
Me too, Mamie! It rests there only for the space of an image, then it moves into my cupboard. So don't get used to it, Joe.
294London_StJ
282 - You may have a few! I actually made monster cookies, which is a recipe that measures ingredients by pounds instead of cups. I make a half-recipe, which requires 6 eggs, 1.5 pounds of peanut butter, six cups of oatmeal, over a pound of various chocolate bits, etc. I have two and a half freezer bags full of just that.
295Chatterbox
Yup -- but you didn't speak to me. Really. I was here all day Wednesday and would remember... And nobody else here except the cats. How very, very odd.
296cameling
The guy who lives with Stella - Just catching up and your Baileys Coffee bars sound wonderful. I think I'll have to add that to the cookies that I'm making for the holidays.
Are you a fan of brandy soaked Christmas cake that is laden with fruit and nuts? I'm sort of taking a poll among friends. The hubster hates it with a passion and I'm wondering if this is one of those food items that a person either hates or loves with no middle ground.

For realz? But, but...but...you **ARE** coming, right?
>296 cameling: I take them case-by-case, as it were. I've had some rotten ones. I've had a few great ones. And simply not calling it fruitcake doesn't change the fact that it is. Oh, I made a Guinness fruitcake in the past, and it's good. Mostly, though, a piece to be polite and crumble most of it up to swallow quickly is kinda how it goes.

Fruitcake? I like many of 'em, although the fewer nuts they contain, the better. (I loathe walnuts with an abiding passion...)
For realz. I'm slightly unnerved. Yes, shall try to come though I haven't RSVPed as yet. Erm, is the high secrecy level directed at anyone in particular?

What high secrecy level? Is there something I should know? Not that I'm aware of...wait, oh no no no, not him. He's coming, I think.
Not a huge walnut fan myownself. Adore pecans. Something rancid about walnuts to me, even fresh out of the shell. Only time I like them is with maple flavor.
