God's Mum: Brick by brick, the wall between religion and government is collapsing in America, dear:

https://edition.cnn.com/2022/06/29/opinions/supreme-court-bulldozing-separation-...

God: Brick by brick is a good description. What an irony that the central character's name in the Supreme Court's most recent school-prayer drama is Joseph Kennedy, the same as President John F. Kennedy's father.

God's Mum: Facing strong anti-Catholic sentiment, Kennedy, the first Irish Catholic to become president, felt compelled to proclaim in 1960 his adherence to strict separation of church and state, dear. He assured opponents that his policies wouldn't reflect his personal religious views or the teachings of his faith, dear.

God: As the founders feared, when religious faith becomes the guiding force in politics, the historic American experiment in creating a pluralistic republic is most at risk. Allowing the utmost religious freedom, within the bounds of high walls between church and state, has spared the US from the kinds of religious wars that have plagued human history.

God's Mum: We have watched earthling's mistaken Sincere Religious Belief destroy many well set up nations. I did not expect that to happen in USA. A very sad day, dear.

"Captain Noah, sir." (Smart salute)

"Yes, wife, what is it now?"

"The plump chicken and cockerel have flown the ark, Sir."

"Not possible, their wings were clipped to prevent such an event"

"That's what I said to the cook, Sir, but she insists they have flown to a town in the north, Sir."

"Which town in the north?

God's Mum: Good morning, dear. Eggs and bacon and a cup of coffee for you here, dear.

God: Perfection, thank you, I will enjoy all that this morning. You look deep in thought.

God's Mum: Whilst gardening I was pondering the Earthlings, dear. Some earthlings hold sincere religious beliefs, dear. What do you feel leads them to waste all their energy in such a ridiculous enterprise, dear?

God: Various reasons. It is mostly because they do not have the common sense for anything else.

God's Mum: Very sad to see so many good earthlings losing their way and spoiling their short time on earth by developing sincere religious beliefs, dear.

God: If you do not have the courage and wisdom to live your own life, religion can be used as a third-rate alternative.

God's Mum: As can be observed in all the people working within * The God Industry *, dear.

God: Very true. The problem is that sincere religious beliefs are cobwebs that become cables.

👩 Roxanne is an average pupil in an average school. 👩‍🦰

She feels she can get all the religious instruction she desires from her parents, the public library, the internet or even the boring local church if she chooses. Her class do not intend to have someone else's guesswork rammed down their throats against their will.

Teacher: Good Afternoon. Today we are going to discuss Our Lord Jesus Christ walking on the water.

Roxanne: That's bullshit!

Teacher: I beg your pardon?

Roxanne: You heard. We are in school to learn. We are not here to listen to you spouting bullshit about someone walking on water two thousand years ago.

Teacher: If you speak to me in that way again, Roxanne you will be banned from my classroom.

Roxanne: That is your idea of discussion, is it? If you ban any one of us from this classroom we have an agreement that we will all walk out. We do not want to be here anyway. ~ Your call ...

God's Mum: Collective worship and Christian-biased religious education in Northern Ireland breach human rights, a high court has ruled today, dear.

https://www.secularism.org.uk/news/2022/07/ruling-collective-worship-and-re-in-n...

Collective worship and RE in NI schools breach human rights.
Posted: Tue, 05 Jul 2022
God: That is a groundbreaking ruling today, the High Court of Northern Ireland found the current arrangements for collective worship and religious education (RE) breach an article in the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) which provides that the state "must respect the right of parents' religious and philosophical convictions in respect of education and teaching".

God's Mum: The case was brought in 2021 by a father and his seven year old daughter, after the girl's family, who are non-religious, discovered her praying late into the night. This led them to investigate how her school was imposing Christianity on young children through religious assemblies and RE lessons, dear.

God: The law in NI compels state-funded schools to "include collective worship whether in one or more than one assembly" every day. The right to withdraw children from collective worship is available to parents, but no independent right of withdrawal is available to pupils.

God's Mum: Similar laws exist in England, Scotland and Wales., dear.

God: Christian privilege has dominated education in Northern Ireland for too long, fuelling its serious problems of segregation and sectarianism. Under this historic ruling today, this cannot continue.

God's Mum: We also hope that other UK governments are watching closely, dear. In light of this ruling, laws imposing collective worship in UK schools look shakier than ever, dear.

God's Mum: Sincere Religious Belief is wrecking USA, dear.

Supreme Court Takes 'Wrecking Ball' to Separation of Church and State With Prayer Ruling". What do you make of all this, dear?

God: After decades of affirming that prayers led by school officials are unconstitutional, Justice Sonia Sotomayor said, "the court now charts a different course."

https://www.commondreams.org/news/2022/06/27/supreme-court-takes-wrecking-ball-s...
God's Mum: A U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Monday offered "another example" of the court's "conservative supermajority continuing its politicized agenda," said the head of one of the nation's largest teachers unions as the decision overturned decades of precedent which prohibited educators from leading students in religious displays, dear.

God: "One of the amazing things about the Coach Kennedy case, which has rendered the establishment clause's separation of church and state basically moot, is that to accomplish this the U.S. Supreme Court embraced a version of the facts that's demonstrably false," said Guardian columnist Moira Donegan.

Father Ted: The Complete Scripts
by Graham Linehan, Arthur Mathews

Is this the funniest TV series ever made? That would be an ecumenical question - but the scripts are every bit as head-spinningly funny as the shows themselves.
Includes dialogue cut from the actual broadcasts, and brief but entertaining commentaries from the writers. I particularly liked their observation that you could add the word 'priest' to any adjective (or other descriptor) and get a new character: thus 'the dancing priest', 'the monkey priest', 'the laughing priest' and so on (all of these actually appeared in the series, too...)

(2) Howlingly funny scripts from the Channel Four cult comedy series. To quote Amazon.com, "Exiled to remote Craggy Island, Father Ted Crilly shares a house with the breathtakingly stupid Father Dougal and the constantly inebriated Father Jack, who has a small vocabulary and a taste for furniture polish. Their housekeeper, Mrs. Doyle, takes care of them with a never-ending supply of tea and sandwiches." Tragically, the series star (Dermott Morgan) died shortly after the third series concluded filming. But what a comic legacy.

God's Mum: He made known his views on religion, dear. Apparently Einstein had only read the book due to repeated recommendation by mutual friend, dear.

Every month God's Mum features an item of ChurchSpeak. These are unedited passages from church leaders in such obscure church language that they are unintelligible to mere humans. A clear demonstration that * The God Industry * is unable to communicate in the real world.

Pope Francis says Love your enemies.
To love one’s enemies and to turn the other cheek seems impossible, but Jesus Christ’s love gives Christians this strength that can save even those who hate them, Pope Francis said Sunday. “Turning the other cheek is not the loser’s fallback, but the action of those who have greater inner strength,” the pope told crowds in St. Peter’s Square. “Turning the other cheek is to overcome evil with good, which opens a breach in the heart of the enemy, unmasking the absurdity of his hatred. And this attitude, this turning the other cheek, is not dictated by calculation or hatred, but by love.” “Dear brothers and sisters, it is the gratuitous and undeserved love that we receive from Jesus that generates in the heart a way of acting similar to his, which rejects all revenge,” Pope Francis said...

Once, given that the Church of England is the established religion of the country and that it was created following the break with Rome under Henry VIII, a Catholic prime minister would have been unthinkable.
