I've participated for myself for many years, but this year I'd like to include a request for my DIL who is USAF deployed abroad.

Do any of the Indy booksellers on this year's U.S. list ship to APO addresses?? If so, which one or ones do?? Thank you!!

I'd like to ask for a donation this year if at all possible. 🥹 Santathing is such a bright place every year. Thanks for always working so hard to bring it to us!

I have never really participated in SantaThing, and have no desire to do so. One year I made a few suggestions, and ever since I get spam on my profile every year. I have asked for years to get taken off the list, I even tried blocking the staff member whose name is on the spam, to no avail. Is there no way to get off the list?

I am ignoring this and every other SantaThing topic.

I'm not sure I understand what exactly is Donations, in this context ? Is it to donate books without being a secret santa ?

The way the program works is that you register and you pay the sum you want for your Secret Santa to use. When you donate, you do it for someone else instead - so they get the money and they get to be Secret Santa for someone else. If you get a donation, you get a registration for free (for as much money as the donation was) - so you get books when the time comes and you get to pick for someone else as their Secret Santa.

Is it not possible for Blackwell's to be an option outside of the UK? They offer free worldwide shipping.

We think we will open up Blackwell's to everyone regardless of location, with the caveat that books might not make it to homes overseas by Christmas. Hold tight and the option to choose Blackwell's will appear by the end of the day.

I’d like to understand how the book selection works. Would I be able to see the other persons book reviews and research what they like and what they’ve already read? Also, does library thing take care of shipping…or would my personal information (name & address) be given to someone else? Would I have their userID where I could thank them?

Is Book Depository not an option anymore for international orders? I'm in Canada.

ETA: I see this "Non-US members should choose Blackwell's (UK & International), Kenny's Bookshop (Ireland & International),". Are those coming from the UK and Ireland? That might take a while to Canada. And does that mean a portion of what I pay will be for shipping? Book Depository was nice that way. Thanks.

I imported my Goodreads and it stuck my entire wishlist under both the wishlist tag AND the "books I own" tag even though I don't own them. Hi, I'm in Australia and hoping to participate in the Santa exchange for Christmas cards. Given I'm in Australia, I'd love to have as much time as possible to allow for postage to reach an international recipient. Hoping to see an announcement soon.

>59 humouress: New. The program instructions do not allow for secondhand books because they are chosen days and weeks before they are ordered - which causes issues with availability at the time of ordering by LT.

Apologies if I missed it, but I signed up and didn’t receive a confirmation other than I see my preference post. Does the assigning, paying and picking part start after the 27th or do I need to do something now.

Just keep checking the SantaThing page. When Santas are picked, the one for whom you are assigned to pick will show up.

I'm participating this year, but I had problems with the Early Reviewer scheme (they asked for my ID number. I sent it to them but they have not shipped the book). How will LibraryThing manage IDs?

I was asked for my ID number in order to send me a book (which I have not received so far). It seems to me that the participating SantaThing bookstores are not fraudsters, but I would like to know how they plan to handle that information.

Since the Santa Thing sign up was extended another day does that mean the card exchange sign up is being pushed back until the 29th instead of the 28th?

I've been assigned a recipient using Blackwell's, but I can't get to their website. I've tried multiple search engines (and the LT link) on multiple devices, but I get an error message everytime. Is Blackwell's available from the US?

My Santee doesn't appear to have a shop listed in their profile so not sure where to pick their books from or how much shipping I need to deduct. Can anyone advise?

I've added selected books on my recipient's santathing page and they show up there but I don't see an actual "Save" button anywhere as it says in the instructions. Am I missing something?

I get an "Caution. Cannot be mapped to a LibraryThing work, so (my recipient)'s catalog can't be checked." message when using using an ASIN for kindle books (the ISBN for the print version works fine)

The santee I have picked $15 total and a bookstore which needs $6 dollars in shipping. I can't find anything on that store's site for $9 (barely any for $15, for that matter). Is there an option to use a different store, or what should I do? Can I chip in a few bucks myself to make it a good book?

I just added my picks to my Santee's profile. I also added a comment with some further book recommendations, does anyone know if the Santee will see the added comments as well in the end?

My Santee’s library is private, so I cannot see what is already owned. I don’t want to choose duplicates; I want to put in the effort to find something special that isn’t already owned. Should I not worry about it and choose books that fit the categories the person wanted?

It's annoying, I don't know how to select books :(

Wow, $30 at Book People is impossible. Take off $6 for shipping and you're left with $24... but no one makes $12 books anymore as far as I can tell, which means just one book.

There's no way to filter or sort by price that I can see, so finding a cheap book just involves tediously searching titles again and again and hoping a cheap edition of that work exists.

One of the books chosen is a large print pbk edition that's like $27. There are regular trade size paperbacks available for significantly less; I added the ISBN of the regular edition, and added another suggestion for where to spend the "extra" money. I know I would hate to put in $50 and only get two paperback books. Just my two cents!

I almost started crying when I opened my Secret Santa delivery 📦 It was Perfect!! 🤩 I received two items!! And both were exceptional picks! I feel extremely blessed and grateful to Library Thing for everything that they do to make this happen 💕🎄🥳

Oh, I just took a look at my Santee again and see there was more money left over than when I'd checked the prices (or maybe it was something with the exchange rate). Now I feel badly that I might have been able to pick something else. When I chose it, it was within the $1 I always try to be. I guess it still wouldn't have been enough to get another book, though.

I don't know if there's an official one, but I created a List for 2023 Christmas Gifts. Cause who doesn't need to expand their WL's even more.

This is a very weird request, but I just noticed that I accidentally entered several books that I finished this year to my wishlist instead of my library during the window Santa Thing gifts were being selected. I requested Kindle books (as I always do), and last year when my Santee gave me a book I'd read but inadvertently neglected to enter in my library, it took FOREVER and a lot of arguing for Amazon to give me store credit for it. (This used to be a very simple process where you just clicked an "exchange for store credit" button but apparently they cracked down on it. They wanted me to return the book/credit to the purchaser, and it took an hour of back and forth and a manager or two to convince them that I technically WAS the purchaser, at least in terms of being the source of the funds used for it.)

ANYWAY, I'm hoping to avoid a similar hassle this year, with no guarantee I'll be able to find a helpful manager this time, and since I can easily see my Santa looking at the wishlist and thinking, "Oh, wow, I'll just pick from the 4-5 newest additions to the wishlist. I bet she really wants those!" can someone look at my entry under SantaThing and see if any of the following are among my gifts?

If any of them are there, and it's not too late and too much to ask of the LT staff, could they either be replaced (with anything on my wish list that fits the price range--I don't want to make more trouble than necessary with my boneheaded mistake) or canceled with either a refund or a Kindle gift card for that portion of my entry?

And if there's no way to fix this and these books form some or all of my gift, can someone be so kind as to let me know now and save me the disappointment of finding out on Christmas Eve that my hoped-for brand new books are actually books I read earlier this month?

Are we going to be able to see the comments on our own entries soon? I love what my Santa picked for me, but sometimes there are also interesting suggestions in the comments, and I had an Amazon gift card in my stocking. :-)

I only received 3 out of 4 books from Blackwell's about mid-December. I'm in Montreal. They're great books - thanks to staff, my Santa and my daughter. :) The missing one looks good as well.

And guess what showed up in my mailbox today! Package has arrived! Hello there - can somebody at LibraryThing check if my books are still in transit or delivered? My neighbor will often get packages for me, and I have to retrieve them, but she works at night, and gets grumpy when I wake her up. Thank you so much!

Hmm... According to the newly opened comments and orders, I should have gotten four ebooks from Kindle, but only received three. No sign of Chaos Terminal . Changes due to prices at last minute, or somethinge else?

I am assuming there are books yet to come? I received one of mine ("Magnificent Rebels") from Blackwell's ten days ago, but no sign of the other two. Just kinda curious whether they are lost or yet to come.

My books arrived today! Yay! Merry Christmas to me! (And thank you to my Santa.)

General FYI: I'm still receiving "dispatch" notifications from Blackwell's -- so the books we ordered in early December are... still on their way!

I would hate to see Blackwell's removed as an option. I think they have better availability and pricing than the US independent bookstores LT picks.

I think I'm also still waiting for something to arrive from Blackwell's. Got a package before Christmas with one book and a booklet .

A month after my first book arrived from Blackwell's ("Magnificent Rebels"), two others still haven't. If an LT staff can provide my the tracking number I'll try following up with Blackwell's, otherwise I'll assume they went down with the boat and see if they wash up in the next few months.

It is not the biggest deal. I'm happily reading the one I got.
