All the books in this series are translations in romanian but for three of them (Whispering to witches, Winnie-the-Pooh and Roverandom) the cover appears from the original english. I expected that being a romanian series all the covers to be romanian also.
Is that ok to have them mixed up, some in romanian, some in english?!

You can mark the language of your reviews regardless of which site you use.

CK should only be added in the correct language site.

If you are entering CK that can be shown in different languages, it needs to be entered in the CK for that language. This can be done either by signing into that language site or by clicking on the language at the top of CK. For example, if you want to enter the Romanian title in Canonical title, you need to make sure you are entering it for the Romanian site, and not the English site. Some CK like gender always needs to be entered in English. (Changing it on one site changes it on all.) There is also a bug that doesn't let certain dates be edited on the language sites.

Regarding the combining, I checked and there are still two Aventuri... series. Is that ok? Or one of them will vanish by time?

Please take a look, I don't think it's ok because it looks like my book is the original one.
And, if I'm right thinking something is wrong with this entry I want to know why is this happening? I didn't even looked for the original. I imported my romanian book from National Library of Romania, made the adjustments and then save, and there it goes all that informations which obviously are about the original one.

More, I want to create a work relation because my book is part of a set, which I have, but for now I wait for your answer.

On the cats book ( https://www.librarything.com/work/73185/304337333 ): Look in the box at the line that says "Work Info: Millions of Cats by Wanda Gág"

What you are seeing with that URL is your book so you are seeing your own details. That's normal. In cases where you are looking at yours or someone else's book, you want to look at "Work Info" to see the actual work level title and author.

Which is to say that all looks good on that title :)

PS: Can you please post links to the two series that you are seeing?

This should be OK. The Romanian has been merged into the larger Series, titled in English on the English-language LT site (I know nothing about a Romanian LT site), and I added the Romanian name to the resulting combined Series. I believe it's now correct and as expected; if anyone disagrees, please either correct it or let me know.

I've added Millions of Cats as being "contained in" the set, but I don't readily recognize the other three Romanian titles as being other specific works of Wanda Gág's. Each of those three Romanian titles should be combined with other living language translations of their corresponding works.

Please help to uncombine. These issues were uploaded manually, yet were combined without my input despite all five being different issues.

It's not just the colon. Autocombiner also only looks at the first 20 characters.

I am very sorry. I am still very confused about the way LT is working.

So, when I search Aventuri din Tărâmuri Îndepărtate I STILL got 2 results:
result 1 which is correct, and
result 2 which I mistakenly created.
What I do not understand is why result 2 is still here after I deleted it?
I don't understand either why it needed to be combined instead of being erased. It is an empty series. It is a mistake series.

Now, about Pachet Wanda Gag , which is a box set of four books, translated in romanian, ofcourse, I added the following titles:
Absolut nimic, in original is Nothing at all, wrote it in CK
O creatură ciudată, in original The Funny Thing, also in CK
Zurli și Zbanghi, Snippy and Snappy, also in CK
You added Millions of Cats

So, now in terms of display, I see that three titles are in romanian and one is in english.
In my opinion all the titles must be in romanian.

Work relationships are on the work level - and a work contains all copies of a book in all languages.

PS: And done - now you should be seeing the titles in English. If there is ever a collection of all 4 books in any other language, it will be combined with your Romanian boxset as well.

Actually, you should see YOUR title at the top of the work page, and in Your Books. (Here depending on what columns you use.) The work title will reflect the site you are on, and is what you will see places like the Author page. In my normal style I like to have my title and authir followed by the work title and author side by side. Particularly when my copy is in German and the work is in English.

It appears @AnnieMod and @MarthaJeanne have addressed your comments on Pachet Wanda Gág. I typically work with LT in English, and on the English language site, which can be complex enough; I can only imagine the additional complexities of LT in other languages.

Regarding "Aventuri din Tărâmuri Îndepărtate" as a Series, I don't see it as either empty or a mistake; rather it was a duplicate Series that could be combined with the other. I might have deleted each entry from the Romanian-language version, but that really would've left an empty Series; LT would have deleted it after some time, but it might also have been repopulated and revived. By combining the two instead, someone looking for the Series in either language will find it both ways, regardless of the translation they use; following the Romanian-language name link in a search will take you to the one surviving Series, as does the touchstone that I've included above.

I thought that these informations were enough for LT to make the connection between them.

You say I have to make a step more, from Work relations. I tried but I didn't have the proper relators.
There are only: contains, retelling, sequel, prequel, adaptation, abridged, expanded, parody, reply, inspired, guide to, study of,
supplement.
Mine is neither. Mine is a translation of

You need relationships when 2 books are connected but are different (thus the list of possibilities). All Translations, all separate editions, all different formats and so on make up a work.

If you are looking for a layer that is “all Romanian translations” of this book or “all copies of my edition” or something like that, this does not exist in LT. We have books (each separate entry in someone’s catalog) and works (all translations and editions). No middle edition or language level.

One of the side effects of entering books on LT that are not in English, is that you end up getting a lot of experience as a combiner. If you don't want to learn to do it yourself, this is a good place to ask for help. I wish more people would enter original title on their translated books, as with that it is fairly easy to clean up an author's page, but without it it can range from difficult to impossible.

Please remove your setting of Canonical Title. What you want is Original Title. Using Canonical Title will stop LT from figuring out the title based on the most common book in the work and also makes it harder to figure out combination issues when they arise.

So, how is combining done?

ETA: You might need to click 'Helper Hub' to see the workbench link, but once you do it will remember it and stay open

You can combine several places, and I still often use the author page or the editions page when they work, but the easiest is the workbench. You will find this in the helper's hub on the work page. You need to add each work to the workbench from its own work page. Then you mark the works you want to combine, and then follow the directions there. You will want to clear the workbench frequently or it gets confusing.

Note that if you have entered Other authors in your entry, they need to be confirmed on the work page if you want the work to show on the author page. This is done by editing the author information on the work page. You may have to ask for authors to be fetched. Both tasks are generally quite straightforward. A translator is a secondary author on some editions.

I've made my first combination between
Sunt mame mult mai rele decât tine: dovezi incontestabile că ești cu adevărat un părinte fantastic and the original one, There Are Moms Way Worse Than You: Irrefutable Proof That You Are Indeed a Fantastic Parent.
Added also, the translator as secondary & some edition.
After the combining I discovered I could not see anymore the original, There Are Moms Way Worse Than You: Irrefutable Proof That You Are Indeed a Fantastic Parent, no matter what I click I have the romanian version.
That's why I am not sure if all is correct.

If you look at the Overview page, you will see your title at the top of the page. That ir right.

If you look down a bit to the book information, you also see your title. That is also right.

If you look at the bottom of that box you will see the Work Information which shows you the work title. On the English site this is the English title. If you are on the Romanian site and have a Canonical title that might show there. If you look at the editions page you linked to, you will see that most of the copies are in English.

It all looks good to me. You will always see your title on work pages. Work title can vary by site if there is a canonical title involved. That is one purpose of the canonical title.

AND if you go to Anster's author page, you'll see an "Associated Work" listed where he's the "Translator, some editions." Does that help?

contains more than one book. The problem is that all the books use "Renoir" as the primary author because they contain plates of his works, and with similar titles, people have assumed they are the same and combined them. I just added a book by William Gaunt and another book by Milton S. Fox which both resolved to this work. They are not the same work. I suspect the work by Pach may also be mixed into this although I haven't checked.

I have several games which are book-based.

For example, Kleiner Eisbär wo stecken wir? is created not upon a peculiar book but from more books in series. The illustrations are of Hans de Beer. So I thought it was a good idea to relate it to the series, https://www.librarything.com/nseries/6135/Little-Polar-Bear, and create the group Board Games in order to differentiate it.

Similar example with the game Das Schloss Geheimnis, https://www.librarything.com/work/35594852/book/305528505, which I added to the series https://www.librarything.com/nseries/28429/Die-drei-Fragezeichen-Kids.

Are these correlations acceptable?

I split author stephen barnett, but am now getting messages that there are combining issues (and CK issues) which are above my (lack of) pay grade as a newbie. There is a second name which has an odd character replacing the space, too.

I also can't get back to the assigning screen (I missed a couple of works). It's likely that the unknowns form about 3 other people, but need to take a look at publication details to see if any overlap.

>62 OkatoDHS: the warnings are because before you split the author, he had CK filled in. If you want to try to fix them, what you need to do is to locate which of the split parts this data belongs to, copy it there and delete it from the split page.

Split authors can only have disambig notes in their CK.

The audiobook of the light novel series got mixed in with the manga series. I'm having a hard time identifying which is incorrect and fixing it.

I was able to move your edition as it was identifiable due to no ISBN and only your one had that exact title with "., Vol. 1" at the end and no ISBN. One tactic that makes it easier, is to include (light novel) or (manga) etc, in your book title, to make it stand out on the editions page when otherwise the titles are exactly the same. That can make it a bit easier, if it becomes a repeated chore for you to hunt through the editions list. But it should be in the right place now. (fingers crossed)

And all, just for reference, someone suggested to me long ago that {braces} are particularly useful for clarifications, like {light novel} or {manga}, because:

• LT ignores anything in (parentheses); and
• brackets trigger touchstones - just like they did here!

I added "Zechariah" by John Macarthur to my LibraryThing books and am trying to add it to "The Macarthur Old Testament Commentary" series, but every time I try, LibraryThing switches the title of the book to "Fundamentals of the Faith: 13 Lessons to Grow in the Grace and Knowledge of Jesus Christ by John MacArthur." I have one other book in the series ("Jonah and Nahum").

Please help separate Vol 2 and Vol 3 of The Fade Out, which have separate ISBNs but alias to the same work.

No mix up on the author. The newer work had not been assigned to any split. Author attributions are done by members. This one hadn't been. Manual combinations have to be done when the information is not enough to make a secure match.

I'm unsure whether, when or how LT might pick up and remove the incorrect cover (particularly since it's generated from an incorrect ISBN), but at least our flagging should give other LT members a heads-up that the Jennie's cover isn't what they're looking for at Vintage Motorcycles (if there were any doubts).

I've now done that. I noticed that there are already quite a few other flags on that cover (thanks everyone!).

I've found another issue that I've never come up against before; I've added books to my workbench to combine but when I open the workbench, not all the issues are on there.

It happened first last week with Le Loup à trois pattes. I did wonder whether it was just that the system needed some time to catch up but the two copies sat on my drop-down menu for my workbench for a few days though there was only ever one on the workbench whenever I opened it. (Unfortunately I accidentally deleted one copy when I was tidying up and can't find it on LT now.)

It just happened again with The Tale of Tom Kitten; I can see three editions on the drop-down menu for my workbench but when I open it to combine them, there is only one. I doubt that it's (only) because they might be zero copy editions since other books with zero copy editions have shown up properly on my workbench.



Is this a bug I should report or some other issue? I'm using Safari on an Apple laptop.

Those ones sound like no-edition works (distinct from zero-copy) – those do need special methods, because the workbench relies on editions. @AnnieMod wondered similarly about them in the bug report that's been made for this one, at https://www.librarything.com/topic/384245#9194990 however these ones do have editions, so something else seems to be at play here.

I have corrected my copy, and entered the correct data in the work page other author, both as primary and as main. This at least got it on the author page, but the work author still says unknown author after several days.

Looking at https://www.librarything.com/nseries/17948/Sanctuary-Fumimura it would appear that book 5 (https://www.librarything.com/work/1116859/t/Sanctuary-Volume-5-of-12) and book 8 (https://www.librarything.com/work/1980913/t/Sanctuary-Volume-8-of-12) should each be split. So there's a "of 9" and an "of 12" of each.

I have gone up & down lists of works by *the* Robert Frost without seeing it. Nor have I found a way to disambiguate him from other Robert Frosts. Could someone please help? Thanks.

>127 bluepiano: There is no way to tell your book "Robert Frost by Robert Frost" from all the other books with that title and author. To separate it from the other books in the current work, you will have to give it some distinctive mark. Several books in that work are by the poet.

BTW, the work is there on the author page, listed as being from 1955.

When I split a zero-copy edition that was under that work you linked, the cover you uploaded and the data about Skolnik came with it. I gave it the title "Robert Frost 2026" to differentiate it, but it's not super useful because there are no copies -- maybe you deleted your copy?

When you do re-add, you would want to do a manual entry -- since as far as I can see, there are no records in Overcat etc yet, this search would just lead you to one of the other works called "Robert Frost" by Robert Frost. Then you can re-split the main Robert Frost to have an additional entry for itinerant poet Robert Frost and his 2026 book Robert Frost.

A bunch of Battlestar Galactica DVDs have a few miscombinations. a season 2 entry in season 1 etc.
