Thanks for requesting a Bell Bridge Book title in February! Since you asked for either FROST MOON or TWICE DEAD, both of which are dark urban fantasy, I'm sending all requesters both novels. Enjoy!

>2 cee2:: I, unfortunately, am not so fast! I plan to start reading it on Monday, during my lunch hour at work.
'Ya think scheduling out when I read books is an indication that I'm reading, er, too many? No? Whew!

I received a Bell Bridge print book from an earlier batch and it came very quickly in that format too. I sent them an email thanking them for the quick shipping and made a comment about the cover art too. They also responded with a nice reply and how they really like LTER. I was disappointed that they only had the ebook versions in the February batch since I don't have an ereader yet ** sniff, sniff **. I definitely need to get an ereader soon! Anyhoo... Bell Bridge continues to get a thumbs up from me! I definitely keep my eye out for their books now.

Yeah, I have to be careful to avoid requesting something like a Kindle-only ebook, which I wouldn't be able to read, but these Bell Bridge books arrived in simple PDF format and I have no trouble opening them on a normal computer.
Though I guess you'd need to make sure whatever computer you are using to read the book also has the necessary Adobe Reader software installed. But that hasn't bothered me because that software is free.

Actually you can download free Kindle reader software (and B&N software, and Sony software) for your PC from each respective site. So you could read it on your PC. Unfortunately, I don't think I can read a full novel on my monster laptop. Too uncomfortable. Hence the **sniff, sniff...I need an ereader** comment! :)

Getting ready to read and am excited!! This was my first month on library thing and I requested books before I had input very many into my catalog and worried they wouldn't have much to go on, but did get a lot input before the end of deadline. I'm still working on inputting. Can't belive I won something I actually want to read - my first time!!! Hoping this means more to come. Are there limits to how often people "win" per year?

I'm excited to read this. I do wish they had used a bubble mailer as there is some slight damage to the binding and the top right corner is kind of smashed. Nothing serious, but a bubble mailer would be a much better idea.

You can usually tell UPS packages by the tracking number on them. UPS Tracking numbers usually start with 1Z. 15 characters follow the letter Z, some of which might be letters, most are numbers. Also, UPS will nearly always leave packages by your front door. The US postal service will only do that where the parcel doesn't fit in your mail box.

I got Romancing Miss Bronte four days ago, read it, and just did the review of it. This book arrived within a couple of weeks of my requesting it, but the first book I ever got, Bleeding Heart Square, didn't come until four months after I was told I'd be getting it. The second one actually came before the first. Go figure!

Well, I'm both happy and unhappy about Making The Rounds With OScar not having appeared anywhere yet. I've basically been out of the house for a week because of all the flooding here in NJ so at least now I know it's not likely a delivery attempt was made by UPS and it maybe returned. (I got a thick wad of mail the first day they delivered again, but no book in it.)
Of course now we have ANOTHER flood starting, so it'll still be a few days before we get any kind of mail/deliveries around here again. :(

These books were good. Frost Moon took a bit for me to get into the story, and Twice Dead started like I would imagine it should have had I read the first book in the series first. I wasn't aware of that at first and was a little confused for a while but it was ok in the end.
I read both books in about 8 hours, man I would love it if someone would write a book that I love that would take me two or three days to read. Reading as fast as I do has become a very expensive hobby!!!!!!
I did like the books though. I was readdy surprised that I received one book, much less two books from the first month I requested any fo teh Early Reviewers books. It was a great surprise and was even better that it was a two for one on my first win!!!
YEAH!

I know what you mean about short books being expensive. When I read Under the Dome by Stephen King I was soo pleased with it because for one reason I felt like I got my money's worth since it was so long. At the 9.99 kindle price when it was only available in hardback, I felt like I got great value per word.

DevourerOfBooks, just to clarify -- 60 days from what point, from having received notice that we would be getting them?
(I just think it would be more useful if there was a way for LT to send the publisher a "nudge", sooner than that.)

>114 daisy32: Correct. 60 days from when you got your notice.
We have to get a couple other ducks in a row before we'd start nudging publishers before the 60 days. Sometimes that's just how long it takes for the order to go from the publisher to the warehouse to the delivery service.

Having the ER symbol attached to reviews now brings up another question. I haven't received my February book yet and in the past that wouldn't have concerned me. However, looking at the page for The Scent of Rain and Lightning, I see that 6 ER reviews have already been posted for the book. It makes me wonder if mine might have been lost in transit, or if the publisher just ran out of copies. Would the publisher want to know if it was lost in transit? If it was shipped by UPS or FedEx, or priority USPS, they would have a tracking number.
If it hasn't come after 60 days, I'll mark it as unreceived.

I find it interesting how many differences there are between this copy (a soft-covered ARC with no inserts) and the one listed in #99 above (a hard-cover with a letter from the Marketing department) ... one would think that this "replacement batch" mailing would have been consistent!

Would the publisher want to know if it was lost in transit?
As long as you mark it unreceived, I can then see that you didn't get it, and let the publisher know. Giving it 60 days means giving the package plenty of time to show up.
Publishers use different kinds of shipping. Confirming a package is an added cost, and media rate is cheaper in general.

116. I know what you mean. I usually wouldn't worry either. I haven't received The Dead Travel Fast, but am now noticing that others have reviewed the book. Now wondering whether it's lost.
Also, I notice that, at least right now, the sentence that says I can mark it unreceived in 60 days is not in blue so that I can click on it. Will it turn blue in 60 days to allow me to let LT know that it's a no-show?

As I'm still newish and getting my feet wet, I find this curious. Am I right that nowhere on the posting of ER is there a mention of length of books? How do ER readers feel about that? Would you select differently if you knew it would be long or short? On the one hand, I wouldn't want too short of a book if I only can receive one (I know, now there is option for two) but on the other hand, if the book isn't good and there is the obligation to review it, you have to read it. It would be depressing to have to plug through 1000 pages of something you dislike. Do you all look at the length of the book as another Russian Roulette aspect to the whole process? good/bad/long/short...
132Ape
131: It's an interesting question. This book I just recieved is 766 pages and they crammed quite a bit of text on each page. I could be reading this for upwards of a month if it turns out to be slow. So it is possible that listing page numbers could affect what I request. But as it is, I'm not deterred by a large size. In fact, I'm quite eager to get this book started! :)
133RBeffa
There is no sign yet of Simon Tolkien's The Inheritance in California. I don't see receipts here by any others either. sigh ...

Since it's all true for me, I'm just going to shamelessly steal the listing from 129. Can't wait to dive into this one.

131. >>> In general, I like long books... but I don't choose ER books by their length. In some ways, I'd rather not know. But when/if the time comes that I find one to be unreadable, I have no problem stopping at whatever point I can no longer tolerate the book and writing a review of the portion I did read.
My review of Makers is one of those. I love most science fiction, and was thrilled to be chosen by the publisher to receive a copy. This was outside of LibraryThing, but the concept is the same. I promised a review.
I started reading the book. Slow start... not good but I kept on beyond my 50 page minimum because there were parts I liked. Kept on beyond the hundred page (normally maximum) for books I just can't get into because there were still parts I liked... but it was very slow - going. And the "chapters" in Makers are long. I gave up around page 145 because I was spending far too much time reading a book I wasn't getting deeply into... and I had to say that in my review... such as it is. I hate being disappointed, because I had such high hopes for that book. It's the first science fiction book I've gotten to review in quite awhile, and I really, really wanted to like it more than I do.

Today's mail brought "An American Type" by Henry Roth. Published by Norton, edited by Willing Davidson (whose unusual first name gains significance when you read his "Afterword").
This is an ARC (Advanced Reading Copy), that looks quite like a quality paperback tho it has only one of the 4 photographs mentioned on the back cover, and only 278 of the stated 320 pages that the book will contain in its $25.95 hardcover due for June publication. (No inserts/arrived by mail to Walnut Creek CA.)
~~~ A note about those very long books mentioned above: If it's a novel one might "skim" and in your review mention that this review is "A birds-eye view," or "....on the basis of the first 20 chapters and a peek at the end, this book...." In any event be honest and fair. Do post a review, and live happily ever after.
Yay! The TMJ Healing Plan: Ten Steps to Relieving Persistent Jaw, Neck and Head Pain arrived in my mailbox sometime between Thursday and yesterday, and I picked it up today.
It arrived in a brown padded envelope from Hunter House Inc., Publishers which is located in Alameda CA. (I'm in Los Angeles, CA.) It is a trade paperback (not an ARC) and came with a very nice cover letter from the senior marketing associate at the publisher's.
Just when I had about thrown in the towel, look what showed up today:
Title: In the Company of Angels by Thomas E. Kennedy
Date received: 7/20/10
Sent from: New York, NY
Sent to: Austin, Texas
Method of delivery: UPS Ground
Packaging method: Bubble mailer
Format: Hardcover
Publisher: Bloomsbury USA
Insert: Letter from Bloomsbury Marketing requesting that reviews be posted on LT, Goodreads, Amazon.com, etc.
Ironically, I have already reviewed this novel because one of the kind LT souls who received an ARC by mistake in the original shipment tracked me down and sent me her copy. After reading and reviewing the novel, I passed that ARC along to another LTER who was scheduled to receive it in the first place. So, once the dust has settled, I am thrilled to have a permanent copy for my library!
