Adaptation of Lady Susan at Sundance Film Festival in I Love Jane Austen (June 2016)
Reviews
A strange little film - entertaining and more amusing than laugh out funny. Very much for Jane Austen fans - it's Austen on steroids. You can see the seeds of her later characters in this but without her later subtlety.
Didn't like Kate Beckinsale, actually liked none of the actors except the one playing the sister-in-law's mother. But do think the book should be used in a high school course or something, to illustrate narcissism. Need to read the book.
I was intrigued by the idea of seeing Whit Stillman rethink Jane Austen, and I thought the novel might give me insight into his artistic process. But there's very little here that isn't in the movie, and the movie's a lot better.
Grim but funny trifle. The actors delivered their lines as if they had just memorized them seconds ago.
