Fantastic book! It's sad, but you really feel the struggles of Fiona and her brother. First, the issues in their homeland and their struggles to get to America are filled with hope and determination. However, the prejudice they face just trying to get a job, often going hungry, and struggling to survive in a place that really doesn't feel like it wants them there is so impactful. This book was the first ever historical fiction book I read, it's also the first book that made me cry as a kid. show more You can really empathize with Fiona. Wonderful book! show less
