I don't believe Hand of a Woman is classified as a romance, I think it must be fiction. I'm not sure of what led me to this book, although I have read one other book by this author. This is an extremely well written book about the life of Damaris Fanshawe, starting when she was 13 yrs old and forced to find employment as a nanny's helper. This book follows her through trials and tribulations to about her 30th year. She became an Episcopalian nun and then a doctor, which was very rare in the show more Civil War era. The story kept me interested, but I did keep hoping she would find love and enjoy some good times. She does get her happy ending (we have to assume)at the end of the book, but it just kind of ends without further details. show less
Really enjoy this authors writing style, tells warts and all about her characters still you become invested in their outcome. The setting in this book stayed mainly in the countryside, gave a more "normal" view of life during the regency time a keeper for me.
Great read. Kept me hooked. The ending could have been better, to me it needed more.
