*This Read-a-thon will officially start at 8pm EST on Tuesday September 13 and ending at 6pm EST Wednesday September 14.

“Portrart of a Girl Reading” by George Van Hook

If this is your first readathon, here's how they work: We'll be reading from 8:00 pm EST on Tuesday evening until 8:00 pm EST on Wednesday (Google has a time converter if you are reading in another time zone). Sign up whenever you decide to join us by leaving your name and location on this thread, and I'll add you to the list below the next time I check in. If you'll be posting anywhere other than on this thread, include the link as well. This thread will be your check-in point and read-a-thon HQ. I'll be posting memes at hours 1, 12, and 24.

There are no rules. Please don't think that you've committed to a sleepless 24-hour period or that you can't participate if you have other obligations! (I know I won't make it the full 24 hours either.) The purpose is to take time from our busy schedules to commit to reading for whatever time you have available. We'll each track the number of hours spent reading and posting and the number of pages we've read. Post updates as often as you like; every hour or at the end of the Readathon, it's totally up to you. Give us the basics or tell us more: How are you enjoying your books? What's going on around you? What are you eating, drinking, listening to in the background? What are you doing during your breaks? Stop by to cheer on everyone else, comment on others' reading choices, or just chat a bit. It's all up to you.

Here's who's participating so far:

1. Mrssmith88 (Alaina) - Vinalhaven, Maine
2. crazy4Reading (Monica) - PA
3. Majkia (Jean) - Florida
4. Chatterbox (Suzanne) - NY
5. Elkiedee
6. Citizenjoyce
7. AnneDC (Anne) - DC
8. LauraBrook (Laura) - Wisonsin

Just a quick update before eating breakfast, making lunch and going to work. I read for about 30 minutes last night. I read a chapter in Lady of Hay by Barbara Erskine. I don't know how many pages since it is on my iPhone.

1. Where are you reading from today? I read in my bed last night and will then be reading at work when able too. Then tonight most likely in my living room.
2. How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours? I am currently reading 3-4 books and will stick with them.
3. What book did you start with, and why? I started with Lady of Hay because I can read it with out any lights on and it has really captured my attention.
4. Tell us about your favorite character from the book that you are reading. I really haven't had a favorite character in this book just yet. I am only on Chapter 6.
5. What are your goals for this read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on threads)? I'd love to make some progress on my books.
6. If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, do you have any advice for people doing this for the first time? Just relax and enjoy your time reading.

I got a bit of reading done last night. Reading House of Chains and got about 40 pages before I had to crash for the night. Bloody Erikson's dense writing style - I perforce read him pretty slowly because he's so sneaky.

I've got a pot of chocolate tea this morning and will try to read a bit after I get off the computer!

As for goals: none. Well, other than to enjoy!

1. What are the titles of the books you have read so far?
The Sookie Stackhouse Companion, The Dress Lodger, Bee Season
2. If the book you are reading now was made into a movie, who would you cast to play the main characters? Bee Season was made into a movie which I'm going to have to seek out when I'm done with it, Richard Gere played Saul. For Gustine, the little waif prostitute in The Dress Lodger, I'd have to suggest Ellen Page, the best little waif around.
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-Thon? The Dress Lodger
4. Describe the your perfect reading environment. A cabin in the mountains with fresh pine scented air and chipmonks and birds around a birdfeeder near the porch. In other words, Rainbow Trout Ranch in Antonito, Colorado

Hour 24 The end
I've been reading:

Books finished during the readathon: 0 - 4 of the books I'm reading are over 400 pages, and the 2 at the top of my pile are over 500! - I have really dented them all though

Total books read from: 7

Sue Moorcroft, All That Mullarkey

Margaret Mazzantini, Twice Born
Deborah Crombie, Where Memories Lie
Louise Douglas, The Secrets Between Us
Barbara Pym, Excellent Women

Total pages read: 362 pages I think - I'm guessing a bit what I read after 1 am last night and before 1 am tonight

Which book did you enjoy the most? The least? and Why?

I'm enjoying them all. I'm reading more from the top 3 books than from the others.

How likely are you to participate in another read-a-thon? very likely
