It’s September Series and Sequels time again. Time to dust off all the books that are part of a series that you’ve been meaning to get back to. It doesn’t matter what the genre is, mystery, fantasy, sci-fi, graphic novel, etc. - if your book is part of a series, then this is the place to be in September

I’ve set the thread up early as I will be away for the first part of September, but I will be checking in. Please let us know what you are planning on reading so we can all give each other a little encouragement and cheer us on to clear a little space from our shelves and wish lists.
Just to give you a few ideas:

I have so many books to choose from, but I would like to try and get the following read during September:
Bad Boy by Peter Robinson
Enna Burning by Shannon Hale
Resolution by Robert Parker
Faithful Place by Tana French
Cafe on the Nile by Bartle Bull
Sweet Tooth, Vol 3 by jeff Lemire
Dark Blood by Stuart MacBride
Forge by Laurie Halse Anderson
I'm sure once I see what others are reading, I'll will want to add many more to my list.

Argh, so many series...
I'll probably read the latest mystery from Martin Walker, the Devil's Cave.
I'd like to start reading the Tana French novels, and Stuart Neville's novels set in northern Ireland.
Dunno if it's technically a series, but The Purple Shroud by Stella Duffy is certainly a sequel.
Perhaps the next Peter Robinson novel?
I have an ARC of the upcoming Peter James mystery coming from Amazon.
The Fallen: A Jade de Jong Investigation by Jassy Mackenzie, #3 in the Jade de Jong mysteries set in South Africa.
Some more Terry Pratchett City Watch novels.
Oh, and I have the new Giles Blunt mystery that just arrived!
So, lotsa sequels....

I've just listed on my thread all the series books I'm 'involved' with.
Probably will try to finally kick off the Canongate Myth series by reading The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ as it's been on Mt Tbr since it came out. I've also promised myself to read Pawn in Frankincense, Lymond Chronicles #4 and I've just discovered the Hal Challis series, so will read #2 Kittyhawk down.
YA reading should include the last Montmaray book and the 2nd Wildensterns book.
The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ by Philip Pullman
Pawn in Frankincense by Dorothy Dunnett
Kittyhawk down by Garry Disher
The FitzOsbornes at War by Michelle Cooper
The Wisdom of Dead Men by Oisin McGann
Hmm, I should try to squeeze in A Feast for Crows too.

I've just started reading Louise Penny's Three Pines series, and really like it so far (I'm reading the second book now), so I'll probably read one of those...
Other than that, I was reading the Foundation series, and should really get back to it. And I was reading The Wheel of Time but left off somewhere halfway the third book, so I guess this theme is a good reason to pick it up again...

I'm in! Just like Britt, I've started reading the Louise Penney series and I should have Still Life finished in August. So.....I've just requested book 2 in the series, A Fatal Grace, from the library.
Thanks for setting up this thread Judy!

I'm part-way through whole heaps of series. So what are the rules for September Series & Sequels? I don't usually plan my reading, I just pick up whatever book on my TBR pile appeals most to the mood I'm in, or whichever library books are due back next. Or, of course, whatever library books I've managed to pick up, depending on what I've come across, and how much space I've got available on my card.
10drneutron
I don't strictly plan out my reading either, but I'll go to the library intending to look up some sequels and see what I get. For me, it's more about directing the stream of consciousness a bit more than usual. :)

#9 I don't think there are any rules - any book in a series counts.
I'm good at making reading plans but not very good at sticking to them. Books I may read for September series and sequels are:
Flowers for the Judge by Margery Allingham
Allan Quatermain by H. Rider Haggard
The Ask and the Answer by Patrick Ness
Eight Skilled Gentlemen by Barry Hughart
Lustrum by Robert Harris
Pull Out All the Stops! by Geraldine McCaughrean
Dear Enemy by Jean Webster
Frontier Wolf by Rosemary Sutcliff
The Sword of Damocles by Anna Katharine Green
The Nine Tailors by Dorothy L. Sayers
The Merlin Conspiracy by Diana Wynne Jones
Lucia's Progress by E. F. Benson
Green Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson
The Three Hostages by John Buchan
The Valley of Fearby Arthur Conan Doyle
The Enemy of God by Bernard Cornwell
And possibly:
The Beautiful Mystery by Louise Penny
Whispers Under Ground by Ben Aaronovitch

Thanks for setting this up, Judy!
I am hoping to get to:
The Brutal Telling by Louise Penny (Three Pines #5)
The Likeness by Tana French (Dublin Murder Squad #2)
A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin (Song of Ice and Fire #2)
And on audio:
The Janus Stone by Elly Griffiths (Ruth Galloway #2)
Deception of the Emerald Ring by Lauren Willig (Pink Carnation #3)
If time permits, or I decide against the Martin chunkster, I'd like to read #3 in the Duncan Kincaid/Gemma James series by Deborah Crombie, Talulla Rising, the sequel to Glen Duncan's The Last Werewolf, and/or Payment in Blood by Elizabeth George.
ETA: I forgot about Susan Hill's Simon Serailler series - I'd like to read the 3rd one in that excellent series!

Thanks, Judy for setting up this thread - I'm so excited about this! Couldn't come at a better time for me. Just as life begins to get really crazy, I can escape to some of my favorite reads. I'll be back with a list later - still mulling it over, although, like Heather, I am great at making lists but not great at following them, still...it's fun to dream.

Good morning everyone. Great to see you all here.
I knew that once I started to see what everyone else is reading, that I would get so many more ideas! I already see a lot of books that I am looking forward to hearing more about.
#9 - Humoress - as you probably have figured out, other than reading a sequel or a series there really are no rules. You can list your planned reads in advance or list your books after you have read them. Even if you list your books in advance, you are still entitled to change your mind. It's always fun to make a list and then compare at the end of the month and see how close to the list you actually stayed.
Mostly this is a place to be encouraged to get some of those series moved along and/or sequels attended to and have fun doing it.

So my little list is A Fatal Grace #2 - Louise Penny
and A Game of Thrones #1 George R R Martin
and Catching Fire #2 in Hunger games series

Very glad to see this started up again. Thanks for putting it together, Judy.
Cheli, I may join you in cupcake mystery #2.
I haven't put my list together but one book sure to be on it is the brand new Louise Penny mystery, to be released on 8/28, The Beautiful Mystery. Just realized that the official launch will be about an hour from home and not far from my sister's house so I pre-ordered a copy and made dinner plans. This Inspector Gamache series, set in Quebec, is my favorite mystery series currently being written.

I'm going to try to get to:
The Bonehunters number 6 in the Erikson Malazan series
Old Man's War by John Scalzi, which has been languishing on my TBR mountain for too long
Against a Tide of Years by SM Stirling. I do NEED to get back to Nantucket
and for spice
The Alexandria Link by Steve Berry
Far from the only series I'm reading, but they're a start. Alas, the Erikson books are so densely written, I can't count on more than four books in a month since I'll be reading that.

I'm going to have to wait until I get home to see what I have that I can add. I've been meaning to get around to deciding what books I want to read in September, but I've had other things on my mind. I will try to make my list tonight, but I'm sure that I will snag The Beautiful Mystery ASAP.
24benitastrnad
I plan on reading the third book in the Benny Griessel series by Deon Meyer and will start listening to the Flavia DeLuce Mysteries as some point. I also want to read Wise Man's Fear and Shape of Water the first in the Inspector Montalbano series. When I finish those I will start reading IQ84 which is not a series but since I am reading it for the group read in October I need to get an early start on it.
25ffortsa
That many series I never heard of? that's terrifying.
I'll be back with some plans later on.

I just started a list trying to organize some of the series I'm reading and really interested in.
Horrors!
I just realized what a hopeless goal it is to read even a fraction of what I see there, let alone read anything else.

Terri, it feels like we opened Pandora's Box with these lists! In the end though, it feels great to actually know where I stand in terms of all my half finished series and it's nice to know what I'm supposed to read next. :)

I've starred this thread and need to go and put my list together. I've been meaning to do a comprehensive list of series I'm involved in for my thread, so this may be the incentive I need to get that done!

Thanks for reminding me this was happening Judy. Like gennyt, I am off to figure out all the series I have started and actually want to continue with. I have started some series that I have no inclination to continue with, so I will not include those.

Okay - I created an overambitious list, but some of these may not be available at the library when I get ready to check them out anyway. I seriously doubt that I will make it all the way through my list, but I've been surprised before by my pace. At least I won't be running out of things to read!

I finally found a used copy of the last in Winston Graham's Poldark series, Bella Poldark. It's the only book in the series that I have not read, but it's a really massive tome. I'll put it in this challenge. :)

I have just totally amazed myself in my investigation into series I have in progress. I have made a list, but at my pace there is no way I will get through them all in one month. I will endeavour to read some of these, in no particular order:
The Fiery Cross, book 5 in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon
The Key of Creation, book 3 in Terra Incognita by Kevin J Anderson
Warlord, book 4 in Robin Hood series by Angus Donald
Death of kings, book 6 in The Saxon Chronicles by Bernard Cornwell
Death of an Empire, book 2 in the Merlin trilogy by M K Hume
Camelot's Honour, book 2 in Paths to Camelot by Sarah Zettel
Land of the Painted Caves, book 6 in Earth's Children by Jean Auel
The House of Lanyon, book 1 in The Exmoor Saga by Valerie Anand (I read book 2 first)
The Concubine's Secret, book 2 in The Russian Concubine series by Kate Furnivall
The Borgia Mistress, book 3 in the Poisoner Mysteries by Sara Poole
Days of Splendor, Days of Sorrow, sequel by Juliet Grey
The King's Daughter, book 2 of the Thornleigh Saga by Barbara Kyle
Moth to the Flame, book 3 in the Woody Creek series by Joy Dettman
Kiss River, book to in Lighthouse series by Diane Chamberlain
Dreams of Joy, sequel by Lisa See
The Knight of the Sacred Lake, book 2 of Guenevere by Rosalind Miles
Companions of Paradise, book 3 in the Paradise trilogy by Thalassa Ali
Thanks for inspiring me to put this list together. It is great encouragement to get on with finishing or getting up-to-date with series.

I know what's going to happen... I'm going to list the series that I plan to read in September and because I've listed them, I will end up not reading them. So, I'm going to keep the September theme in my mind, and try and surprise myself with how many I read that meet the theme.... I wonder if it's possible to fool my subconscious?
I wish this started this week though because I've got a Colin Cotterill with me that I'm planning to read this week. hmm... I wonder if I can push it out for another 2 weeks?

I've got a couple of books on my " must read in August" mental list , but I cannot wait for September Series, Judy! I have a couple of Scandi Crime books on hand......... can I wait til September! ;) I have Black Skies and The Absent One waiting for my attention!

Well I'll definitely be reading Ark by Stephen Baxter, the sequel to Flood which I read earlier this month, and The Magician King by Lev Grossman, the sequel to The Magicians as I have both on loan from the library. As for any others ... well I have lots of series on my shelves ... but I'm not sure which I'll get to ... maybe it will be best to wait and see what will fit into a TIOLI challenge:)
Looking forward to seeing what everyone else reads, even though I don't need to add any more series to my reading list:)

Hi Judy - Thanks for setting this up. I haven't really made a plan - it depends what I get from the library. I hope to read The Absent One and The Beautiful Mystery. That 's all for now.

Well, I am in the middle of oodles of series, but I won't be able to attack most of them this month (swamped with other things). However, there are two new YA books coming out next month that are part of a series and I hope to read them:
Flesh and Bone, by Jonathan Maberry (ominously released on 9/11)
The Lair of the Deadly 12, by David Alastair Hayden (the author told me it would be released in September, but I'm not skeptical since I don't see it listed on Barnes and Noble yet...perhaps I'll only read the one book)

I learned from Morphy's thread that if you go to your profile, then Statistics/Memes, then Series (under Common Knowledge), that you will get a list of all your series.
Whoa! Whoda thunk I had that many series going?!
And why is it that the books that I don't have a copy of sound better than the ones lurking on MT TBR?
Still working out what I want to read, but at least now I have a list of possibilities.

I know I'll be reading the new Inspector Gamache and the new Jack Reacher. Others are likely to come along, like The Merry Misogynist in Colin Cotterill's Dr. Siri series.

I've compiled a list of 16 series books I'd like to read next month. I tried to rank them in approximate order of likelihood to read in Sept (so, #1 is probably almost a sure thing and #16 is a definite maybe).

I have listed all my series on the FactFic website and (blushes) I have almost 600 series on the go. Of course, in today's publishing world, if a book becomes popular a sequel is pretty much guaranteed. Trilogies are commonplace and series are everywhere!
Just when you think a series is completed, the author tricks you by going back into the character's early life for some prequels. Even an author's death is no guarantee that the series is finished, another author comes along and picks up the series. What's a reader to do!

#40 Thanks for the reminder about using that technique to track down series.
Using it, I found I have 607 series. Now many of these are not ones I'd consider series. Or I maybe abandoned them many years ago.
Added to that, unfortunately, are the new series I want to start.

I am so glad I found this thread. Thank you Judy for starting it. I was actually considering reading only series next year to try and catch up!
Here is a short list of possibilities:
Dayworld by Philip Jose Farmer (Do I dare start a new series?)
Snuff (Discworld) by Terry Pratchett
The Perilous Prophecy of Guard and Goddess (Strangely Beautiful) by Leanna Renee Hieber (This is actually a prequel)
Great Tales from English History (Book 2) by Robert Lacey
This should be a good start.

FYI - the number of series that it shows for you may not be as high because some of the series are under 2 or different names i.e. V.I. Warshawski and V.I.Warshawski novels are counted as different series even though they are the same.
48humouress
I have a paltry 170 series, some of which I hadn't realised were series, or parts thereof. Though some of them seem to be duplicates - I've got the Vorkosigan series listed in both chronological and publication orders, for instance.
49thornton37814
I'm not sure if anyone here reads any of Lawrence Block's books or not who has a Kindle, but today's "Daily Deal" is 7 Lawrence Block books for $1.99 each. Just thought I'd mention it if anyone has been wanting those.

Why can't series month be October (other than the obvious fact that October doesn't start with an S)? I've got 5 books coming in Oct 1 & 2 which are all series books, except maybe the new JK Rowling, which is a stand-alone as far as I can tell. I have NO active series books left to read next month! Unless I stretch The Dark Monk out forever, which is wholly possible I guess. Or reread something... oh yes, that could work!
All coming out Oct 2.
The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Led the Revels There by Catherynne Valente (The Girl Who: 2)
The Last Dragonslayer by Jasper Fforde (Dragonslayer: 1)
The Woman Who Died A Lot by Jasper Fforde (Thursday Next: 7)
The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan (Heroes of Olympus: 3/ Camp Half-Blood: 8)
ETA: Just remembered that I have The Rose of Fire by Carlos Ruiz Zafon to read, so I'll save that for next month, even though it's only 150 pages.

My series page shows 601 series. I scrolled through the first few and noticed that several are piano music series. Others are for series I've sampled but don't actively attempt to follow. My real total is probably quite a bit lower than that, but I'm sure it's still a pretty large number!
52thornton37814
Mine showed 609, but I didn't look any closer.
53ronincats
Mine says 995 series, but that includes ones that have been completed, ones I have no intention of reading beyond the first book, and some that are rather dubious series in the first place. I haven't massaged mine to see what I'm going to be reading, but I need to move on in both the Three Pines series (#4) and the J. D. Robb Death series (#3) as well as #4 in the Dr. Siri books, the latter two of which need to be ordered from the library.
54fuzzi
Mine says 336 series. I found out just how many books I've been missing...that's a DANGEROUS feature of LT!!!
55Britt84
I'm almost ashamed to say that I only get 17 series listed :) And there's a number of doubles too, like the foundation series is in there both in story order as wel as in publication order, plus as a combined series with the Robot series, so not counting doubles I have only 12 series going...
But a number of series I'm reading simply aren't there because I haven't added them to my library yet...

I have changed my mind about what I will be reading starting this week. I will be reading The Honorable Schoolboy by John le Carre and I ordered the second in Derek Robinson's RAF series Good Clean Fight. I am started on IQ84 and it will take a long to read, so am not going to be too ambitious during the month.

What !!????? You mean there are books that don't come in series????? This one is for me. Like Caro, I don't want to jinx myself, but I know I'll be reading 3 or 4 at least. But what a great idea!!!
Although when I look at my planned list for september, there are only 4 that would count! How did that happen?
I do have several audios waiting that would qualify--and at the top of the list is hilary mantel's Bring up the Bodies as the sequel to Wolf Hall. TA DA!!

Tina, I've heard it said that there are books that don't come in series. I rarely encounter these so I'd have to research it.

In case anyone is interested, I have a kind of series related TIOLI challenge. Please not the qualifier "a kind of"... No more details until Madeline posts!
61luvamystery65
I'm currently listening to the Harry Potter books on audio so I'll tackle a couple of those including Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I will start On What Grounds by Cleo Coyle as I picked it up at the library book sale for 50 cents. I will finally finish The Cadfael Chronicles with Brother Cadfael's Penance a series I started in nursing school many, many years ago. I started the final book but I couldn't bear leaving Brother Cadfael behind. Silly me! I can visit him whenever I want.
62luvamystery65
I forgot to add the Inspector Sejer Mystery In the Darkness which I picked up on Amazon UK and Don't Look Back. Can't wait to start this series.
63jnwelch
>63 jnwelch: I really liked Don't Look Back, and I need to get back to that series at some point. What fun to be reading Harry Potter for the first time! What a story she puts together.

I stumbled across this page today, just when I thought there was nothing that could surprise me on LT. I don't read a huge amount of series but rather, several. So, off the top of my head-The Game of Thrones series, of which I have only the last two to read. I wanted to tell anybody interested in the Tana French books Broken Harbor is the latest, although I don't know if that is part of a series. Anyway, I truly enjoyed all three of them. She has a way of invoking a sense of place that puts you firmly in the story. Don't hesitate to dive into those. For me the Henning Mankell books are calling, calling, one day I went into B&N and bought several paperbacks and always keep an eye out to find them. I'm not sure how they are distributed into series but some are not included I'm sure, because one of the p/b's is short stories. There are series I keep hearing mentioned such as Louise Penny's,that seem very well-liked so I may have to look into those. There are a few other authors I have read, but I'm not sure if their books are considered series so I guess I can check out the web-sites or pages here suggested above to find out if they are in fact series. Anybody considering the George R.R. Martin Ice and Fire series, go for it. I enjoy them a great deal. I like that the fantasy aspect of them is applied with a very light touch which make them all the more believable.
66tymfos
I did a post trying to organize my active and wishlisted series, and it was absolutely overwhelming! I've just started a book that first in a series, but I feel no need to save it for September -- I have NO SHORTAGE of books that fit this thread!
67Helenoel
This is a wonderful theme for me. I have to catch up on getting books I already own read, and this will be a good trigger. I'm not going ot post a list ahead, just back from vacation and no time to go looking, but will finish the current library book (which would qualify, Tuesday Next series) which is due before the end of the month, and start some series books. I was startled to see some series listed on my page that have only one book-and said I had completed the series. not sure that is quite right.
68msf59
Mary Beth- I believe the Tana French books are a series but a very loosely based one. There are always characters from past novels and it deals with the same police department.
BTW- I love everyone's lists! Good luck Valerie! Wow!

Okay, I compiled my September S & S list. I will probably get to most of these but I'm being a bit flexible and sadly this is just a microscopic dent in the stacks, hardly perceptible to the naked eye.
The Lost Ones This is an overdue ER and I've wanted to try Atkins for a long time
Midwinter Blood New Scandi-Crime. Nice.
Talulla Rising The follow-up to the Last Werewolf, which I loved!
The Angel's Game the follow-up to Shadow of the Wind. Way overdue!
March Violets I want to get back into this series, so I'll reread the 1st.
Anarchy and Old Dogs Everyone is leaving me in the dust on this series.
These are possibles:
Kindness Goes Unpunished Walt Longmire Book 2
The Skull Mantra An inch of dust on this baby!

Anyone know the film and the actors? Bonus points involved. Hurry up while Mamie & Paul are away!

After a brief glance at my physically present TBRs, I realized this is a thread I need to use to get some stuff done.
Simple Justice---2.5* and good riddance
Blind Eye---cut 9/7
The Limits of Justice---cut 9/7
Justice At Risk--no point in binging without the purging, and the series has always sounded so tempting...
Dissolution
Sovereign--several years now, and no reading in either book? *tsk* bad boy!
The Walls of the Universe--had to put it down for a book club read, and now it glowers at me every time I walk past it.
Head Wounds--I luuurrrve the Long Island noir-ness of the series, and need to get this one back to the liberry soon.
The Devil's Hearth--love the story, like the sleuth, got stalled somehow.
The Body in the Belfry--poor little booky-wook, falls to the bottom of the pile every time, and I can't say why.

Richard - I hope you enjoy the Sansom books as much as I did when I finally got around to reading them this year. I've still got another one or two to read, but I haven't lined one up for this month. Although I might pick up the third one if I finish the others I plan to read.
72Susanne_53
I've just finished The Greatest Knight and have The Scarlet Lion on order at the library.
I didn't realise there was an earlier book. What is it called? Does it cover William's childhood?

It looks like everyone is firming up their plans for their September reading,
#59 - Hi Suzanne, I am looking forward to seeing your September TIOLI Challenge, I was hoping there would be one or two challenges based on this series/sequel theme.
#69 - I think I know this one Mark, Humphrey Bogart and Gloria Grahame. I believe the movie is In a Lonely Place. I've seen the movie and have the book by Dorothy Hughes on my TBR shelf. Do I get the bonus points?

I've got 412 series according to LT's elves. I'm not going to get to them all, and I'll try not to make plans, I'll just post as I read any series/sequel books.
I was thinking I hadn't read many series books of late, but according to LT, the last four books I started have all been series books. LOL, me and my memory!

This is perfect, since I have been needing to finish C.S. Lewis' Out of the Silent Planet series for two months. I read the first one, then when I got on the plane to go overseas, I started reading Perelandra. Until I got to chapter 11, which I discovered a previous owner of the book had TORN OUT. So I had to set it aside for two months until I could go to a library and photocopy chapter 11 from their copy.
I'm also hankering to get into the Lucifer series of graphic novels, starting with Lucifer: Devil in the Gateway by Mike Carey and continuing on for 10 more volumes. It's a spinoff of Neil Gaiman's Sandman series in which Lucifer ... Well, I won't spoil it. :)

I'm not going to make any concrete plans because I haven't had time to think about it and make a list, but I just picked up Talulla Rising from the library, so that's a definite on the sequel/series TBR pile, as are The Girl in the Clockwork Collar and The Girl in the Steel Corset (oops, backwards order). Oh, and one of the Kurt Wallander mysteries, but I forgot the title and it's on my Kindle which is upstairs.

Good morning! I'm starting to get my ideas organized for September Series & Sequels. Of course, these are only "possibilities." My reading never fits my plan -- and there are library books, waiting lists, and even a couple of ILLs involved, too.
These are ones which will will also fit the Surreal September theme:
A Winter Haunting by Dan Simmons (sequel to Summer of Night)
A Crown of Lights by Phil Rickman (#3 in Merrily Watkins series)
Wings to the Kingdom by Cherie Priest (#2 in Eden Moore series)
The Gunslinger by Stephen King (#1 Dark Tower series)
Disco for the Departed by Colin Cotterill (#3 in the Dr. Siri series)
Some others I'm strongly considering to catch up on series:
Blue Lightning by Ann Cleeves (final book in the Shetland Quartet . . . unless she makes it a quintet, as I 've heard rumors of)
The Beautiful Mystery by Louise Penny (the latest Gamache mystery)
The Sandburg Connection by Mark deCastrique (latest Sam Blackman mystery)
And some other books to continue favorite series:
206 Bones by Kathy Reichs (Tempe Brennan series)
The Indian Bride/Calling Out for You by Karin Fossum (Inspector Sejir series)
Prayers for Rain by Dennis Lehane (Kenzie/Gennaro series)
There are plenty of other possibilities, but these are at the top of my list right now.
I'm headed off to work, and plan to put in the ILL requests needed for several of these today.

Not making big commitments, but here are four I will plan to read:
The Likeness by Tana French (currently listening, so I'll finish it in September)
The Snack Thief by Andrea Camilleri
The Tourist by Olen Steinhauer
Palace of Desire by Naguib Mahfouz
Looking at everyone's lists, I am reminded of how many wonderful series there are out there! I might try to read the third (or am I on the fourth?) in the Walt Longmire series, too.....

Here are my planned books:
Timeless by Gail Carriger - Parasol Protectorate 5 (currently reading; might finish before Sept)
Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel - Wolf Hall Trilogy 1 (currently reading; no way I'll finish in Sept)
Goliath by Scott Westerfeld - Leviathan 3

I am going to finish up the Stormwarden series by, Janny Wurts think I am going to start over and finish all three as it's been awhile since I read the first two and want to get the full enjoyment again! I will be listening to these on audio because the narration is wonderful!

I know it isn't September yet, but I have started my series reads for the month. I had to do an Inter-Library Loan but got the second in the RAF series by Derek Robinson. I read Piece of Cake years ago and liked it, and so have had the second in that series Good Clean Fight on my TBR list ever since. Last year I read the Anton Ryder series by Bartle Bull and loved them so am hoping to that this RAF series meets the high standards that the Bull books set.
I also started the second in the Karla Trilogy by John LeCarre, Honourable Schoolboy, but will lay it aside while I concentrate on Good Clean Fight. I also am reading Mission to Paris on my Nook. I wonder if these books should be classed as a series? Each book is a stand alone and doesn't carry over characters. However, today while reading, there was mention of the assassination in a bistro in Paris that occurred in a previous book. A big mirror behind the bar in the bistro was not destroyed in the shootout and ended up with a single bullet hole, so it was left. The characters in this book were having a dinner in that bistro and the story of the bullet hole in the mirror was retold. Guess that tenuous thread makes it a series?

Mary & Katie- I have the audio of Talulla Rising and plan to start it on Friday. I heard the LW was terrific on audio, although this will be of course a different narrator. Looking forward to it and haven't heard much buzz over here on it.
90katiekrug
Mark, I was thinking something similar earlier - that given the amount of buzz for TLW, I was surprised there hasn't been more for the sequel. I was shocked to see it just sitting on the shelf at the library - I would have expected it to have a bunch of holds on it.... Oh well, lucky me!

I really should read A Storm of Swords and this is a good excuse. It's so big that I just couldn't bring myself to open it for summer reading.
Plus I want to get started on Louise Penny series, since so many people have commented on it, so Still Life goes on my list.
Since I just read Divergent I've put in a request at the library for Insurgent. If it comes in September I'll have to read it.
And finally, although it's not technically a series, I'm going to call it one for my own purposes, and put The Great Gatsby on my list....because I read The Double Bind this month, and it is so dependent on Gatsby, but I've never read it!
I am scheduled for knee replacement surgery on September 10. Either I'll have a lot of time to read the next month, or I won't be feeling well enough. I suspect the former. I'll need to put on an audiobook during all those hours of physical therapy.

So, Mark and Katie ~ Are we starting Talulla Rising on Friday? Oh, wait, Katie got a head start on it. Well, that's fine. She can be the trailblazer. :) Mark, mine is on audio too. (Loved TLW on audio, and have great hopes for the sequel.)

I will either read:
Bitten by Kelley Armstrong. This is the first in the Women of the Otherworld series. I read Dime store Magic in July for the Reading Through Time group's theme of witchcraft. This was the third book in that series and had great fun with it. I read it
OR
Crimson Joy the 15th Spenser novel by Robert B Parker. I have already read all his books and am re-reading them.
I love FictFact.com for tracking all my series reading.
I, unfortunately, have too many books carrying over from Aug that I need to finish so will not be adding many new ones to my 'currently reading' list.

I'm at the beginning of Sharon Shinn's Dark Moon Defender, which is the third in her Twelve Houses series; and am part-way through Joe Abercrombie's The Blade Itself, first in his First Law series.
But just about everything I read is part of a series, so I'll have to update as I go along. (I'm sorry; I don't plan my reading, so it's all ad hoc).

I'm not quite half-way through The Blade Itself. I read some of the reviews when I was only a few pages in, and I was a bit put off by the mention of violence and dark deeds; but having started it, I thought I might as well give it a chance. So far, it's fine. Obviously, since one of the main characters is a torturer, there's a bit of torture in it, but not too bad - I can cope. I haven't worked out Glokta yet. On the one hand, he should be a hero, but on the other, he's very much not my idea of a hero.
Oh well, it is enjoyable, so maybe I'll find out later.

Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood (Maddaddam Trilogy)
The Dragon's Path by Daniel Abraham (The Dagger and the Coin #1)
Oh yeah just bought The First Law Trilogy for Kindle so I'll probably start that as well.

It's September here already, so I've started City of Glass, the third in an angsty romancy YA series, "The Mortal Instruments" by Cassandra Clare.
Lots of anguished looks from our tortured leads at each other, a bloody fight, and a fair whack of magic. And I'm only one chapter in!!

#92-theStorm of Swords part of the Ice and Fire Series is great! You'll be glad you started it. I read the first 3 books in the series before I stopped and took a break with a different book. I've said this somewhere else but what I particularly liked about the series so far is that Martin uses a light hand with the fantasy aspect making it quite believable IMHO. I don't read much fantasy, not because I don't like it, more likely that I read fantasy that is encompassed within another genre, such as C.S. Lewis's books, or Philip Pullman, classified as children's books. Anyoldwho, I would like to begin the series by Dan Simmons, which LTer's have given excellent reviews, beginning with Summer of Night and A Winter Haunting ending with Children of Night (i think that is the correct title) Because I have heard so much about Louise Penny's detective series I purchased Still Life which I think is book 1 of one of her series. So far, these are the only series I am beginning and committing to, but I am also finishing the Ice and Fire series. After I update my account here I think it will show that I own or have completed several more series than seem evident currently.

Cannot believe it is September already. What happened? I am going to mainly concentrate on series reading this month because RL is going to be slightly out of control I am guessing. Currently I am reading The Killing of the Tinkers and listening to The Last Werewolf. I plan on reading March Violets and the second book in the Walt Longmire series. I have no idea what else- whatever trips my trigger, I guess.
Totally bummed that I missed the movie challenge.

I am going slightly crazy here as, being away from home, I can't sort through my books to match my reading with the TIOLI Challenges! I know, obsessive, right? I do have Resolution by Robert B Parker on my kindle and am starting September with this as it is the second book in the Virgil Cole/Everett Hitch series and matches Linda's TIOLI Challenge #6.
#102 - Mark, don't tempt me! I am trying to read only from my shelves right now, and I would have to either buy Talulla Rising or get it from the library.
#105 - Benita, I hope you are enjoying A Good Clean Fight, I love Derek Robinson's books, and remember that as being a very good read with lots of humor. I've also read Piece of Cake but not the third one in his WW II trilogy.
#113 - Ha, Ha, Mamie, if you hadn't been away I probably wouldn't have been able to get my answer in quick enough and win all those bonus points!

I have made a good start to the month as I have just completed Prophecy: Death of an Empire, the second in a trilogy about Merlin by M K Hume. It was a good read, with Merlin traipsing his way through the Roman Emipre meeting all sorts of historically significant people. I am now up to date with this series and I'm looking forward to reading the final in the trilogy when it is released.

I am working on Alan Furst's Spies of the Balkans which is in his series of historical spy novels. It's really out of my usual reading box, but I'm learning a lot about the region and it's history in WWII. In fact it's showing me just how Amero-centric my knowlege of WWII actually is. The US didn't fight in the Balkans, so somehow it got left out of the world history texts I remember in high school.
It was the pick of my RL book club for its meeting last week. Unfortunately, the copy I was reading ended up going through the washing machine (a complicated story involving a freezer meltdown, huge piles of towels, and I must have had the book in my hand when I discovered the problem). The story is continuing onward in that every time I use the washer, it belches forth more book confetti from its depths. One of the book club members who disliked the book loaned me her copy so I could finish reading it.
I may pick up more of the series if I see them in random places (book sales, airports, etc) but will probably not actively seek them out.

I am terrible at planning out my reading — something shiny always catches my eye and leads me astray. Having said that, here are some series that I'd like to move forward this month:
Triptych is the next up by Karin Slaughter. I am torn on whether to continue this series, as I've not loved the last few I've read, but I've got it on hold at the library so if it comes up I will probably read it.
Tongues of Serpents is the next in the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik. I am really looking forward to this one (also on hold at the library).
Whispers Under Ground is the third in the Peter Grant series by Ben Aaronovitch. I'm 13th on the hold list, so I don't hold out much hope that this one will come in time for me to read it in September.
Besides those, I'd love to continue my re-reads of a couple of classic (to me) mystery series: The Ed McBain 87th Precinct series, and the Matthew Scudder series from Lawrence Block.

I finished the first book in the Cairo trilogy, Palace Walk, though I read most of it in August.
I've also read the first book in a new mystery series by Jennifer Rowe (also publishes under Emily Rodda), Love Honour and O'Brien which was a fun read. I'd only read her children's books such as the Rowan of Rin series and Deltora Quest books, so now must seek out more of her adult fiction.
I've also finished one of the Canongate Myth series books, The Helmet of Horror, started a second one The Fire Gospel and hope to read a couple more before the end of the month.

#124> rosalita, I've got the first Peter Grant book, and it's fairly high up the short list for Sept S&S! So is Fire by Kristin Cashore, only I can't seem to find my copy...
#127> I'm reading the latest Emily Rodda series to Mr Bear, starting with The Golden Door. He's a fan of the animated series of Deltora Quest but isn't a fan of reading (he likes chapter books because it gives him longer before he gets sent to bed and more Mummy Time, I'm thinking). I have to sneak books up on him a bit. I'm rather liking The Golden Door myself, although it's a younger book than I'd usually read.
Still thoroughly enjoying my YA angsty romance, even though it's obvious where the plot is going at times. But she's got a good bit of humour, and the pages are turning at lightning speed. I read about 200 pages yesterday alone...

I finished The Beautiful Mystery last night and it was as good as I've come to expect Louise Penny's books to be. The frustrating part is that I've got to wait another year to find out what happens next! I did miss Three Pines, which barely got a mention in this one. If Penny continues her every other book pattern, the next one should be back in Three Pines.

Have you tried Geronimo Stilton for your son (not sure how old he is), there are so many fun illustration and font changes that he might just want to read them himself. The various Aussiebites series were good for emerging readers too.
I've started two sequels - Varjak Paw, outlaw, children's book with great illustrations by Dave McKean and a YA, Queen of the Night, followup to This is Shyness.

#138> Bother, I just (and I mean just, I sat outside with my coffee and read the last few pages before running upstairs) finished City of Glass. I thought that might happen, so I'd packed a backup book, and it's Fire, not Rivers of London. Next book! Unless I start hitting the crime books before then...
City of Glass wrapped up the series rather well, with some space for future adventures (an evil baddie seems to have escaped, hurrah, because he had the potential to be a very creepy baddie). Now to decide whether to continue on, or go back to the prequels...
#140> The animated Deltora Quest is Japanese, I'm rather chuffed that he's enjoying some manga (he's turning 10 in November, OMG, I can't believe it's been ten years already). He just isn't interested in reading chapter books, although he did read the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books because I refused to after a while. Miss Boo (7-and-a-bit) likes Geronimo Stilton, she's often borrowing them from the library. I did find my library receipt the other day, and after a handful of my books, there was a big long list of the Rainbow Fairies books by Daisy Meadows. 120+ books in that series, and I think she's quite determined to read the lot! She can knock them over in an hour or so, and reads a lot at bedtime, the AussieBites are great for her too.
I'll be starting Fire, the Graceling prequel on my way home tonight. Been looking forward to it (Graceling was such good fun), even though I've heard it's not as good.
Hm, previous read had book blurb from Stephanie Meyer. Upcoming book has blurb comparing to Stephanie Meyer. I seem to be in a trashy book rut. ;)

Boys around 10+ who don't like reading can get hooked by Darren Shan's Cirque du Freak series and I love the CHERUB series by Robert Muchamore though you'd have to read the first one and see if he's mature enough for them. Andy Griffith's 'Just' series is great on audio for this age group too. You'll have to ask around and get him hooked into a series, there's so many out there if you can find the right one - just make sure that each actual book is slim enough to feel doable. My son got hooked into Darren Shan after going to hear him talk.
My daughter had that Rainbow fairy bug when she was a beginner reader too, there were only about 30 or so back then.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye open for Cirque du Freak! I tend to borrow books that I want to read with him, and after a week or two of him resisting, he'll change his mind and then I'm the only person who takes him to bed for a couple of weeks so he doesn't miss out on hearing the story any night.
I have suggested that he could read it *without* me, but he looks at me as if I'm mad. I think he's more into the Mummy Time than the actual book. :)
We've had hits so far with Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, The Hobbit (he pushed for that one thanks to the new Lego LOTR sets), Diary of a Wimpy Kid (although I disliked them), and now The Golden Door. I keep meaning to buy him the second Percy Jackson - I thought the first was quite flawed, but he enjoyed it very much, and I did like introducing him to the Greek Gods.

I just finished up my first sequel for September, The Absent One - part of the Department Q series... and I am happy to say that a third installment to the series will be released in Spring 2013.

I finished my first sequel for this month. Mission to Paris is the twelfth in the Night Soldiers series. It was more of Furst usual fare - low key espionage that features lots of atmosphere and then a short burst of suspense. I thought the ending of this was a little unsatisfying as it was written in a very sparse way that almost seemed off-hand. Not enough detail for me. I was happy to see that a character that was in one of the previous books made a brief appearance in this book. This, along with a brief recap of a scene in a bistro from a previous book , makes me think that these books qualify as a series and not just a stand-alone title.
I am about half-way through with the second in Derek Robinson's RAF World War II series - Good Clean Fight. It has lots of potty humor and some that is downright scandalous. So far it isn't the same caliber as the Bartle Bull books, but is is good. This author doesn't glamorize the desert as much as Bull. This book talks about the placement of the latrines.

Okay, I finished my 1st S & S, The Lost Ones. It was solid crime book (and my 1st Atkins) and it's a series I'll return to. Now I go from North Mississippi to the chilly climes of Sweden, for Midwinter Blood. This is another new author and the 1st of a new series.

Today, on a long drive, I finished listening to the audio of Breaking Silence by Linda Castillo, 3rd in her series about Kate Burkholder -- a woman chief-of-police in rural Ohio who left the Amish faith as a teen. It was pretty good.
Have started Disco For the Departed, #3 in the Dr. Siri series by Colin Cotterill. I'm also reading The Indian Bride, 4th in (English publication order of) Karin Fossum's Inspector Sejir series.

Just starting In the Darkness: An Inspector Sejer novel by Karin Fossum. It's the first in the series but was just translated into English this year. I got it from Amazon UK since it's not available here yet. I'll follow with Don't Look Back. Can't wait to start this series!

I have finished my first book for S&S September, Resolution by Robert B Parker is the second entry in his Virgil Cole/Everett Hitch series and was a very enjoyable read.
I am now reading Enna Burning the second book in Shannon Hale's Bayern series. Also have started the 19th Inspector Banks mystery, Bad Boy by Peter Robinson.

I finished Behemoth for my first read of September. Quite enjoyable and is on par with the first book. Will be keeping my eyes out for the last book in the trilogy.

I finished Snow Angels, which started out with promise but fizzled out by the end of the book. I think the author tried to do too much in one book. It was OK, but I doubt I'll continue with this series.
I've started on Sins of a Shaker Summer, the third book in a historical cozy series set in a Kentucky Shaker community during the Depression.

#141 I read the Graceling trilogy and actually enjoyed Fire more than Graceling, though I thought both were extremely good.
Finished The Fifth Woman, a Kurt Wallender mystery, which was enjoyable though filled with the usual angst.
Mark, I'm about halfway through the audio of Talulla Rising. Loving it and loving Penelope Rawlins, the reader too. I think she's fabulous with all the voices and will be looking for more of her work. Though I'm at a part in the story that isn't so much fun right at the moment (when she's in the cell with Walker). I don't have a good feeling about how that is going to turn out.

Mamie- I hope to bookhorn in Death Without Company this month too! A very crowded field. I'll be watching for your thoughts.
Mary- I loved Penelope Rawlins too! I got a kick out of her Cloquet voice. There are many cringe-inducing moments in this story but I really liked it.

#158> Mark, good to hear! I shall have to purchase a copy of Talulla Rising asap.
#161> I just finished Fire, and I did like the world she built (quite completely different from the one in Graceling, really) but the plot sagged a bit for me in places. I think I wanted more focus elsewhere; I found the pre-war spy set up a bit facile. But good characters, and a great world. I'll be reading Bitterblue at some stage!
And now I've just started Rivers of London. Loving the tone so far, it's hitting the spot nicely.

I've reviewed a book for September Series and Sequels. Simple Justice is the first in an eight-book series, though damned if I can figure out why. See what I thought was wrong over in my thread...post #116.

I am completely awed reading everyone's lists of intended reading - I wish I could be that organized! I'm still in the middle of Disco for the Departed - I got a little side-tracked with that one.
I also started Faceless Killers and I think I've found a new series to follow. And I have the latest Louise Penny on the stacks.
Of 11 books I picked up at the library sale yesterday, 8 are part of 5 different series. Of those, I'm most looking forward to starting The Cold Dish.

I'm part-way through the audio of Started Early, Took My Dog, the 4th Jackson Brodie novel. I loved the audio version of When Will There Be Good News? and I was looking forward to a similar experience. However, this one has a different reader and he doesn't seem to be a good fit for this book. It's not awful, but it's disappointing after When Will There Be Good News?

I've had a good start to the month so far. Read The Ask and the Answer and the short story/novella The New World from Patrick Ness' Chaos Walking series, The Merlin Conspiracy by Diana Wynne Jones which is a sequel to Deep Secret and Dear Enemy by Jean Webster which is a sequel to Daddy Long Legs.
Now happily absorbed in Green Mars which is the second book in Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy.

I'm currently listening to A Fatal Grace the second in the Louise Penny series and enjoying it very much. I like Penny's dry wit.
I must explain, the other book which I'm reading, was a birthday gift so I feel obligated to read it. It is the first in the Fifty Shades of Grey series. I've got to tell you there is something weirdly additictive about this book and I feel I need to read the second to find out how this tale comes to its conclusion.

I have just finished Camelot's Honour, the second in an Arthurian romance series by Sarah Zettel. The first book told the story of Gawain finding love. This one is the story of Geraint and his path to romance. There was a huge fantasy element in this novel.

#176> I did hear tell recently of someone who took her gift copy of Fifty Shades of Grey straight back to the bookshop and swapped it for something she would read. :) I'm waiting for my sister to get hooked on the series, and then she can tell me the lurid plot details, and we can laugh so much we cry. (Hey, it worked with Twilight...)
I finished Rivers of London and enjoyed it very much, I'll be getting book #2 asap. Now moving on to Shape of Water, which I think was on my short list for May Murder and Mayhem. Ahem. This is why I should never make reading lists.

I finally finished by second book for Septemer S & S, Enna Burning didn't quite live up to my expectations. I loved the first book in the series, The Goose Girl but found this one rather tedious at times.
I am amazed at the variety of series and sequels everyone is reading, and I know my wishlist will be growning in leaps and bounds!

Talulla Rising on audio was excellent! Duncan sure can write, and the reader! I loved her voice. Even the goriest bits (and there were quite a few) were bearable because I was able to listen to her reading them. Also finished The Girl in the Clockwork Collar, which sorry to say was not as compelling.
181Roro8
I have finished my third book for Sept S & S. The King's Daughter by Barbara Kyle. This is the second book in the Thornleigh series, and every bit as good as the first (maybe even better). Isabel Thornleigh gets herself involved in the rebel uprising against catholic Queen Mary. At the same time she is trying to locate and rescue her father from prison where he has been placed for killing the man who shot his wife (Isabel's mother). Of course she has a handsome bad boy to help her with this mission in the form of Carlos Valverde, but is he helping or is he just using Isabel? There is heaps of action and the book never gets boring. I really enjoyed it and am giving it 4 stars. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series The Queen's Captive.

I just finished The Beautiful Mystery and, although not set in Three Pines, it may be the best one yet in an excellent series. Impressive.

I haven't kept up with this thread, but I have read some series books this month.
The Keeper of Lost Causes by Jussi Adler-Olsen
Chatterbox recommended this new series, and it was on sale on Amazon, so I took a chance. Not bad for a series start. I thought the main character, Carl Morck, was painted a bit broadly in the beginning, as was his eventual assistant, but the politics of a police organization is very believable.
Morck is kicked upstairs, or really down to the basement, after a disastrous police shooting has left him even more annoying, defensive and obnoxious than he had been before. It also left one of his team dead and another paralyzed. So the chief invents Department Q to handle cold cases, one of which Morck ventually cannot resist looking at. Energized by his scorn for the original investigation, Morck loses his fight to do nothing - of course.
This is one of those books that lets the reader see the criminal, or at least the victim's, side of the story as well as the detective's, which allows the reader to see that Morck is in a race against time even before he knows it - an effective suspense technique. Although I found the story a bit far-fetched, it definitely held my interest to the end. I gave it 3 1/2 stars.
One Was a Soldier - Julia Spencer-Fleming
Ah, a pleasure to get back to this series. Clare Ferguson is just back from Iraq, as are several other members of the community. Their struggles to deal with what they went through is more the center of this book than the obligatory mystery. Serious and enjoyable.
In addition, I have my next Camilleri at home Rounding the Mark and A Beautiful Mystery on my iPod. I've never listened to a Louise Penny book before, but I'm told the narrator is very good. I'll probably start it on my walk to work tomorrow.

I finished my first Inspector Montalbano novel, The Shape of Water, last night. But not before I was inspired to cook a dish of pasta with oil, garlic, anchovies and chilli. An old favourite of mine, and Montalbano made me hungry for it.
Reading books in translation, I'm never sure if they're clunky in their original language, or if it's an artifact of the translation process (or a problem with a poor translator). I get the feeling this one had a lot of in-jokes that were hard to translate (hence some good notes in the back), plus it's a different style to English crime novels. Still, I found some of it awkward to read, although I enjoyed it overall.
Keeping with the Eurocrime, but moving from hot sunny Sicily to cold snowy Sweden with the second Kurt Wallander, The Dogs of Riga. I've neglected this series for a bit too long.

I took good advantage of our quiet weekend and finished two more books that count for September Series and Sequel. An excellent YA story, Forge that is part of author Laurie Halse Anderson's Chains series. And the 19th book, Bad Boy, in Peter Robinson's Inspector Banks series. This one was also a winner.

I'm just now seeing this thread and so glad I did:
I'm continuing to read the Sevenwaters Series:
This month I've read Child of the Prophecy #3 and am currently reading Heir to Sevenwaters #4. I also have A sunless sea from the library to read this month which is Anne Perry's latest William Monk book. So far with that and the other stand-alone books I have lined up I'm not sure I will get to many more this month.
I'm continuing to read the Sevenwaters Series:

Jolerie - so glad that you mentioned Labyrinth was part of a series - I read that a while back and had no idea it was a trilogy. I'm a bit fuzzy on the details so may have to refresh my memory before going to the next one.

So I did a bad thing...Instead of reading the next in a series, I started a new one: The Dirty Streets of Heaven, a mashup of noir detective a la Spillane and urban fantasy with angels and demons. Pretty good stuff!

Just before moving I finished reading Mission to Paris by Alan Furst. This is the newest one in his Night Soldiers series.
During the move I finished listening to Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley. I really wanted to love this book, probably because of all the hype, but I ended up liking it. My sister loved this series, and I like it, but obviously not in the way that she liked it. I like it well enough that I started listening to the second in the series.

I've started Crucible of Gold, the next Temeraire book. I didn't expect it to come in at the library quite so soon, but I'm happy to make room for it in my reading list!
I also read the first book in Dresden Files series, Storm Front. It was pretty good, and I'll be reading the second one before the month is over, I'm sure.

I've finished two sequels:
The Outlaw Varjak Paw, a children's book and YA Queen of the Night which is a sequel to This is Shyness, I can see that there needs to be at least one more book in this urban fantasy. I still haven't picked up any of the books I originally listed in this thread.

I finished reading Good Clean Fight by Derek Robinson. I so enjoyed the Bartle Bull Anton Ryder books that I read last year, and I had read Piece of Cake years ago and really liked it, so I went into this with great expectations for a rollicking ride. It was that, but it wasn't a good ride. This book is filled with sardonic humor that might be mistaken for British pluck and dash, but for me it just seemed like it was describing seriously psychologically damaged men who had no compunction in putting everybody around them in danger. I plan on reading the third book in this series, Damned Good Show, before the end of September and hope that it is better than this one. But first I have to find it in all the mess associated with my move.

I read my first Wallander book, Faceless Killers and I'm glad I already have the second one in the series (and the fourth one, too) waiting on the shelf.
I also finished the third Dr Siri book, Disco for the Departed.

I finished Midwinter blood, a new Scandi-series and the Angel's Game, a loose follow-up to Shadow of the Wind. Unfortunately both were 3 star reads.
I'll be taking a little break from S & S but plan on resuming very soon.

I finished the second Wallander, The Dogs of Riga, and it was quite excellent. Sadly, I don't have the third to hand, so am moving on to Death in a Strange Country, the second Commissario Brunetti novel by Donna Leon.

I finished The Manual of Aeronautics by Scott Westerfeld and Keith Thompson which is a companion to the Leviathan series. I also listened to the audiobook of The Story of Doctor Dolittle by Hugh Lofting.
I'm currently reading Wolf Hall and Shadow of Night.

That's what they tell me, cookie! I loved the Spenser books, and I like Westerns, so I feel confident I will love these, too.

I've started setting up a wiki for series, if anyone would like to use it. I've entered DeltaQueen's books from post number 2, by way of example.

I've moved us along to a new thread. Keep those series and sequels coming and follow me to our new digs.

Someone mentioned Brother Cadfael series - can't find it now. But, I did read the first book in that series a while back - can't remember the name but I enjoyed it ok but I think I was expecting more since I had heard so many wonderful things about this one. Does it get better as it goes? I know that's true sometimes with series.

#177 - I love Arthurian books that I've read so far and had not heard of this one. I can add this to my 59 series that I have already to read - lol.

I recently re-read The Virgin in the Ice which is probably the start of the discussion you refer to. I read many of them long ago, before LT, and can't remember the first (if I ever read it) but the series includes a lot of characters that interact and come in and out of the series, so that aspect develops along the way - we also learn more of Cadfael's back story which helps with depth and complexity. I enjoy the series- but it is not five stars for me. Try one of the middle of the series and see if you like it better.
