About me Reading. Lots of it. That's a big part of what makes me, me.
I have two cats and a husband. All of them are micro-managed and fed well.
Charley was actually a British Aviator - we are trying to find his lost monocle. We won't, no matter how much he begs, let him at the brandy. He's very dashing and explorative. We've discovered he's part Bengal (he's an SPCA kitty, like his big adopted sister) so this accounts for the all manner of strange and wonderful things he likes to do. Sitting in toilet bowls, eating fluff, walking like a leopard...
Leif (the husband) is attached to his computer and I feed him with a spoon and straw so that he doesn't have to step away from the keyboard. Unless he's napping on the couch...with kitties.
Picture is of Hubby and I at our old flat.
Ginny likes to hide. Often in a box with a hole specially cut into it for her, or in her kitty house. Charley the Orange Monster has dragged her out of her shell, though, and she spends a lot of time tearing after him up and down the hall...and hissing and spitting with ears laid back. It's all for show though.
In regards to this place I belong to Early Reviewers while waiting fruitlessly for Random or such to open up the programme here. ~taps foot~ I've also discovered the joys of the Green Dragon
Oh, and I've decided to pull my weight and actually write some reviews on all these damned books I read...slowly.
About my library I only list books that I own. Currently, I'm being ruthless and sorting out books that I'm going to trade. I've resisted this for quite some time. But, my collection is growing, and I have no room, nor time, for books I loathe, or ones that I won't consider reading again, or reading at all. So, I have a To-Sell tag that is slowly growing, and a box by my desk.
This is a Big Step.
I have three shelves: the speculative fiction shelf; a smaller one for lit. fiction; and the other miscellany (and yet more fantasy) is on a third shelf in the office. Fragile things, and children's picture books, are in a box. Our house is very small - crowded with cats and books.

I love tags.
If the start of a series has made it into my Top 30 tag (somewhat obviously it refers to my Favourite Books of All Time), it means I've counted the whole series as one book - given that one series tells one story after all.
And if a book (particularly a literary fiction or fantasy one) doesn't seem very detailed in terms of tags, it's likely because I haven't read it yet, or it's one that I read long ago and can't remember very well. Curses!

12 - already! At this rate it will be closer to 100! Just popped in to see what you are reading now.
I have just finished my latest too - and I am starting another Philip Pullman (reading with my friend in our 'club')- as I just cannot bring myself to continue my Stephenson tome. Despite what you may think, those Pullman books were really good; yes, I was actually surprised at how good. I want to read a fantasy series after that, but I can't decide which one to choose. Help! I was considering Karen Miller...any suggestions?
And to tell you I ordered a copy of The Egyptian from TBD. I decided I would never obtain a copy otherwise, and the exchange rate is v. good at the moment; as if I need an excuse!
Hope you are feeling better; and have fun this week! Hope it goes well,
~ L.

You can't actually add it yourself. I'll post about it in the official b-day thread, and Morphy will edit it into the original post when she gets the chance.
I'm glad you decided to cave in to peer pressure. ;o) *giggle*

Just wanted to let you know I got a copy of The Diving-Bell and the Butterfly tonight; another one down to you. I had heard of it, but I am not so sure I would have got a copy; I think you sealed the deal.
I will call next week, unless you are have some time this weekend...

Yes, it is our September Bookclub read and I let my mother buy it for me for my birthday, along with Your Inner Fish and Lucky Jim. I tried to read Atonement a long time ago and put it down. This, however, is the year of finishing all books started (with one failure so far), so I'm sure I'll read the whole thing. Whether I like it or not is another matter.

Are you reading those three books all at once? What's Roma like? I think I want that one too - I am becoming a fan of Historical Fiction - maybe I should add that tag to my home page too! *groan* Have you always read historical stuff too?

Have you finished your story for the end of this month???
posted by Lman at 8:26 am (EST) on Jun 21, 2008
How are you?
I am so glad you think the same way about the Tom Arden book; I have the whole series (have been part of my library for a very long time) and I am determined one day to read them all. When I first started it ( quite a few years ago now) my frame of mind was not conducive to coping with the 'uncomfortable' parts you mentioned (well put, all that) - just had to stop; the cruelty was beyond my coping at the time. Now I think I would be more able, and more receptive; I have always wanted to continue, reading it was a bit like an animal caught in a car's headlights, compulsive or something??? Thank goodness you seem to have the same thoughts that I do - odd is a perfect descriptor! Compulsively odd is my addition!
My tome. Sigh. My tome... well I am more into it now; it is also compulsive reading, but I am not finding it easy going. I am not sure if it is entirely due to the book, maybe more to do with asides such as work, and the accompanying dramas, but I am making slow progress. Still, it is a very interesting book and I like the writing style, I love the characters, but it is so grand in scale and story that I am only now coming to terms with some of it - hence it is more enjoyable. If I am tired when I read it I find it hard to get my head around it, and find I need to go back. I have no idea whether you would like him or not - I would hazard a guess that you probably would, he has a wicked sense of humour that I think you would appreciate, I laugh out loud at times; his attitude towards the war is quite brilliantly derisive at times (how I feel) and you have the time to spend on it- it is no fast-paced light read. Well, others may think it is...
I found a copy of Gilead the other day. As you say, it looks a great book, so now we share another - and NOT fantasy!! I have probably swayed Britta (my USA friend)to get the Catherynne M. Valente books too. We have our little book club, so I figure if she gets them, then I can put them up for a 'club' read. They look so beautiful, and the reviews are glowing. I have got so many good recommendations for books from you - can you stop please, I'm running out of shelf space!
I think Pride and Prejudice is a perfect companion to The Harlequin's Dance - or perhaps 'antidote' is more apt. Reading a lovely story with the essential happy ending, so as all is right in the world, is absolutely mandatory!!
Must organise another chat soon...
Take care,
~hugs~

welcome to Cats and Crime! So glad you've joined. I love cats too! And I do read a bit of crime, although I'm only really getting into it properly now. I'm trying to expand my reading choices as there are a lot of good authors out there.
Well, catch up with you soon. Enjoy!

And we are up to 210 shared.

OMG! Another one down - are you finding time to breathe with all this? No reviews I notice - of course, no time for THAT!
I don't think you can consider a 900+ paged book, else it will stuff up your challenge. I will be less circumspect if I ever finish it and form an opinion. If I can understand it, that is...
Popped by to see where your butterfly was fluttering...

OOOOH!!! Where did all these books come from? Was that your latest Amazon package? Yum!
LOL!!! Trust you - now you are going for 60 you aren't doing anything else but reading!! Look at all those books you have devoured in the last few days!!!! Tell me, are the Legendsong books good? I wish she would write that elusive 3rd one!! I mean, she has written (or at least had published) TWO (for gawd's sake - aussie drawl here) this year in the Obernewtyn series; maybe she is on a roll? I will have to read them all again as it was sooo long ago when I first read them - I really can't remember all the details. Except I know I enjoyed them.
I am slogging through this 900+ pages epic at the moment - but I can't seem to not read it (if I make any sense - be nice!) as it has me curious as to where and what it is going to do/go! Hmmm - I think I am too old for these convoluted twisted time changing pseudo-science fiction numbers now; not sure if I am understanding any of it at all. But I can't throw it away...sigh.
Hope you are well, BTW the acupuncture is all over and everywhere and dependent on the symptoms at the time(apparently)! ?? But highly recommended!
I am signing off, to have dinner and maybe read a bit more of this tome...someone may well overtake me this month on your 'shared' list as I am determined to slow down on my book buying - for one month at least. Huh! I have probably ruined that little presumption now!!

might just have the time now to really read for the summer.
I think your plan for 60 books is great...hey...try some
Audio books....I'm hooked on Audible.com and my hubby
has just bought me a new ipod (the disc's are OUT) so now
I can spend my travel time listening and "hehehe" relaxing.
Please really look at my book listings...there are some very
good books there and take a look at Kevin Radthorne's page
on librarything "author/member" his graphic arts are great.
Also, Michelle "Sagara" West "The Sun Sword" and Sharon Greens "Blendings" are an excellent series.
At the moment I am reading Kate Elliots "Shadow Gate"
Lane Robins "Maledicte" still waiting for Melanie Rawns
Book 3 Exiles "Captals Tower" will probably NEVER see it
have been waiting sooooo long ... and just received
Jacqueline Carey's "Kushiels Mercy" also just purchased
from Audible.com Terry Goodkinds "Sword of Truth Series"
can't wait to listen (even tho have read them) like to hear
the reading....makes for new interest.
Well...it has been great meeting you and thanks for looking in
on my library....appreciated

I was immediately sucked in, and have been looking at your books, and your kitties.. Charley and Ginny are so beautiful! I laughed at the straw and spoon comment about your husband...in this house I am the one who can't keep away from the computer. :)

Actually I am not going to read that book until I get some larger covering stuff OR I will only be reading it at home - as it so big and I don't want to wreck the cover lugging it around. But it is high up on my TBR list. Those Arabian Nights' books look absolutely wonderful - where did you find them. Wait. Tell me when we talk!!
Going off to bed to read a bit now.. Goodnight!

Bummer about the publishing miss - but it *was* probably not right for the collection (?)- and I think that was a fantastic letter and feedback. I mean, he wouldn't have written anything if he didn't want to - so take the hint and put it out to others - huh? And how good is the comment that he would like to see you in print!! I would too... does that help?
I actually wasn't being sarcastic this time - I really was so far down that I didn't see the ticker!! I am a bit surprised though, that there is a butterfly rather than a kitten on it (*that* IS sarcastic).
OK I am going to check out what is happening at work, when I get in tomorrow, and I may even be able to call you this Wednesday evening????? maybe about 8pm your time - if I can get home by 6pm that is! What about that?
