** If a book has been combined with a book that is extremely different from the original.
** If a book won’t combine with the other books just like it.
** There is a problem with the entry & it is just too overwhelming to deal with.

Can someone blow up http://www.librarything.com/work/88185 ? I see at least four different books all jumbled up on the editions page, plus some Cities (no author, no ISBN) which can at least be isolated from anything identifiable.

#2 I took a look at it - maybe someone has already worked on it? All the different isbns listed were for the same book and the covers shown are all for the same book. I worked on some the works listed as possible combinations.

Jonathan Cape is the British publisher of this at the time. It seems to be poetry considered recent in 1922, but not necessarily written in that year, in fact as several had been published in magazines and the book itself was published in 1922, most of them must be somewhat earlier.

My guess is that the review was written without reading the foreword. Much of the poetry has a 19th century feel to it.

Yes they should be combined, but I think not through the author page.

These aren't revisions, but totally different content. It looks as though the people working on the series have done a good job of keeping them separate. But adding in anything from the search would need special care.

Edited to add - I have added some of the Merian volumes from http://www.librarything.com/catalog.php?view=hahehei&deepsearch=Merian&c... to the series. This is fairly easy, if timecomsuming because of the edition date feature. However, I found one that had been incorrectly combined - the three different covers was a dead giveaway.

Can somebody please try to fix Probability and Certainty in Seventeenth Century England by Barbara J. Shapiro?

It's hopelessly merged (at the Amazon level?) with data from another Princeton Univ. Press book, "Iran Between Two Revolutions (Princeton Studies on the Near East)" by Ervand Abrahamian ISBN: 0691101345

The cover, LT tags, LC subject headings etc., all refer only to the "Iran" book.

I don't know whether it's worth it to dissect the work under "Francesca Freemantle" completely, but someone might know at least whether Shambhala Pocket Editions ought to be combined with their "Dragon" editions? I thought the former were tiny things, unlikely to hold the same material.

It seems someone has combined two different anthologies of Fernando Pessoa's poetry — Fernando Pessoa & Co. and A Little Larger than the Entire Universe.

Eight years ago, Fernando Pessoa & Co., a 300-page volume of Richard Zenith's translations of Portugal's great modernist poet, was one of the events of the year in poetry. Fortunately, Pessoa (1888-1935) was so prolific that only four short poems reappear in Zenith's new 100-pages-longer selection.

Add Selected Poems to my list at 92 above, and I'm done for the time being. (Actually, this last one may be a bit of a lump itself, including as it does variant Penguin editions, an Edinburgh Bilingual Library edition, etc.)

ETA: 93, done.

My proposal about Pessoa's poems: I'd keep the various Poemas, Poesias, Poems, Poesie etc. together, although they likely only partially overlap, simply because total separation would produce dozens of singletons.

On the other hand, I separated out the editions that have something recognisable in the title, like the anthology of Pessoa citations in Tabucchi.

Unfortunately, the separated titles are taking forever to reappear on the author page, meaning that a lot of connexions will be remade only with a delay...

This series needs some kind of combining or separating. It looks like what has happened is this. The original series consisted of 6 volumes. On re-issue it looks like some of the original volumes were either dropped or lumped together but I'm not sure. The original series are the following:

The book/work 'Stickning: personligt & handgjort' which I own and have entered is a Swedish translation of 'Knit: Handmade Style'. I have done my best (and I hope not my worst, when it comes to LT database integrity) to make these two works combinable, but so far without any luck.

I am sad to say that the otherwise excellent source of information, the Swedish Royal Library (National Library of Sweden) may have misguided LT in this case. They have the book title entered as 'Sticka : mönster' with the title I use above entered as an alternate title, and they chose to name Diana Crossing as main author while LT use Janine Flew in this role. I took the liberty of adding Janine as main author of the Swedish translation, keeping Diana as co-author, adding information about original title to the CK and so on, but LT will still not suggest a combination of the two.

Someone combined The Stolen White Elephant and The Stolen White Elephant and Other Detective Stories (http://www.librarything.com/work/177619/editions) (which is obvious, because they didn't fix the CK.)

There are:

As far as I can see the problem is solved.

Now that it is, maybe it would be safe for me to change the main author back to what the National Library of Sweden uses, in case that will help newly registered books to "find" the right work to combine with.

Diana Crossing is still a non-productive author according to LT, compared to Janine Flew. Judging from the list of contributors (no real authors, just a list of the persons contributing knitting patterns) I can not tell who would have contributed the most, who should have the honour of being listed as the primary author at LT. (I could scan the relevant page of my Swedish edition, and make a quick and dirty translation if necessary.)

I ususally go with WorldCat as being more accurate but I've found some flakey stuff there also. Best bet is to ask someone who has the book to look at the title page and verso and go from there. A lot of work when, in this case, adding all the editors might just be good enough.

Hi, these are the same work, however 10298868 is attributed to "Dalai Lama", which conventionally refers to the current (14th) Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, where the work above is by the 6th Dalai Lama, Tsangyang Gyatso. They need to be combined but without causing the 6th Dalai Lama to be combined with the 14th.

Is it possible?
