The treasure hunt is on!
The ship has launched! Sail forth, and find ye the booty. Be sure to tell the crew of your exploits here on Talk: https://www.librarything.com/topic/232841.
Treasure hunt page: http://www.librarything.com/treasurehunt2016.php.
The hunt will end tomorrow, at 10:15am Eastern. Happy hunting!
--------------------------------------------------
Ahoy, mateys! Our favorite day in September comes but once a year, and next Monday, September 19th, we hope you'll all join us in talking like pirates, as is good and proper.
Those of you who were aboard the good ship LibraryThing in 2014 might remember the famous hunt for the Dread Pirate Spalding's treasure. Some of you might even sport a Buccaneer Box (
) on your LT profile, from your part in this worthy endeavor.
I'm pleased to announce that another treasure hunt is imminent! And I need your help!
Previous clues (in rhyming couplet form) were all written by the faithful crew aboard this vessel. This year, we'd like to test your words as well as your wits, and invite you to submit your own clues for other LT members to solve, and thereby locate treasure.
Here's how:
- Write a clue or two that would direct one to a page somewhere here on LibraryThing. It can be any page on LT—a specific work, author, venue, tag, anything!
- So as not to spoil any surprises, please don't post your clues here.
- Email them directly to me (loranne@librarything.com).
- Clues that are on-theme (i.e. involve works, authors, venues, tags, etc. of a sea-faring nature) are appreciated, but not required.
- Please include a link to the page on LibraryThing to which your clue should direct treasure hunters.
- Adding something piratical in the subject line of your email wouldn't hurt.
I eagerly await your riddles! Again, you can see examples from 2014's treasure hunt here: http://pir.librarything.com/treasurehunt2014.php. Please note—while we're excited to read all submissions— we likely won't be able to put every clue we receive into the hunt.
The treasure hunt will begin on Monday, September 19th at 10am Eastern, so please be sure to send me your clues by Sunday, the 18th, at the latest!
If you'd rather not have your clues added to the hunt, but still want to regale us with some rhymes, feel free to post them here. Clues posted in this talk topic will not be considered for use in the treasure hunt.

Woot! I only wish I had Monday off so I can play at leisure. Make it a loooong day game, OK? For those of us on the west coast who are shackled to the oars until after 5pm? I suppose if I had the true pirate spirit I would go boost some jack and not worry about work, but I tend to like my freedom the rest of the year.

Sounds exciting but I'm not sure I understand. Are the clues for anything and everything? On the internet? In Tim's home? On LT?
Yours in curiosity,

>4 krazy4katz: Sorry I wasn't clear! I'll update my initial post when I'm back at a computer instead of my phone. In answer to your question: yes, clues should be for pages here on LT, please!

>1 lorannen: Might you consider posting the answers to the 2014 clues on the linked page so that people can have better examples of what was done in the past?
8lorannen
>7 norabelle414: Also a good idea. I'll try to get those posted by tomorrow morning!
ETA: Ack, I don't have editing permissions for that page. I'll see if I can't get Tim to update with that info tomorrow.

>3 MrsLee: For me it'll be a matter of I'll be working Sunday and Monday night, so my hunting time will be limited to while I'm home and awake. (About 7:30AM-1PM LT Time.) The last time it was my day off, so staying up "late" wasn't as big a deal as it will be this year. Hopefully it'll go until late evening on the 20th again so we all have plenty of hunting time.
12lorannen
>11 rastaphrog: Yes, we'll be running the treasure hunt for a full 24 hours, just like last time. :)
13macsbrains
I am so excited for this! I was disappointed when last year when this, the best holiday, sailed by quietly...
14klarusu
Yay! So happy this is back! Quite frankly the kudos of a buccaneer box (Mark 2) is all I need ;-)
16SamJehanzeb
Can't find it either.
17rastaphrog
I don't think they've turned on Pirate for everyone yet. And according to the "State Of The Thing" email I got Friday, the hunt will start at 10AM LT time.
19lorannen
>18 wester: Nope, not yet! 10am LT time (Eastern, US). I'll be updating this thread once it's live, so you're in the right place!
21MrsLee
So I have another half hour before I start walking with a rolling gate and growling my rrrs?

>23 bnielsen: You should see her move - man, she's fast!
25lorannen
Treasure hunt is coming! We're just doing a little last-minute swabbing the deck before she sets sail!
26rastaphrog
Prepare to cast off!!!

>23 bnielsen: Too much rum, of course it should have been gait, but those wheels would be handy, Argh.
