Happy Spring!
We've germinated 14 clues for you to solve around the themes of spring and also National Poetry Month. Read and solve each clue, then find the page on LibraryThing that matches your solution. When you find the right solution, you’ll see a banner at the top of your screen announcing that you’ve found a seedling. Remember: it's not necessarily a work page!
Go here for the hunt!
You have one week—until Tuesday, April 28th at 5pm EDT—to find as many seedlings as you can.
Use this thread to brag, ask for and give hints, etc
As in past hunts, we'll be awarding profile badges to anyone who finds at least one seedling, and anyone who finds all 14 will be entered into a drawing for a LibraryThing or TinyCat t-shirt of their choice, to be shipped when possible given distancing constraints.
Important: When giving hints, please use the spoiler tag. To mark something as a spoiler, start your message like this:
<spoiler>
And end it like this:
</spoiler>
Troubleshooting
If you’re not seeing banners, or the hunt is otherwise not working for you, you may be using the old site design. Hunts don’t work on the old version of the site. You can switch to the new version by going here. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and look under "Design." You can always switch back after the treasure hunt, if you like.
Happy hunting!
P.S. Thanks to @conceptDawg for the gorgeous European Robin illustration! He's made many of our treasure hunt graphics in the last couple years. We like them, and hope you do, too!

I can't quite believe it but I got all of them without having to come here for a hint. Is it possible I'm getting better at deciphering the clues? Nah, it's probably that the clues were easier. Thanks LT for the diversion.

I completely overthought #2 as well, I got stuck on the second-to-last line and spent way too much time fixating on that instead of the whole clue.
I'm now done, got all 14! I'm always torn between wishing the hunt was bigger (like, at least 20 clues) and knowing it'd probably turn stressful if there was that many.

I had some trouble with that one as well. The issue is, you've probably already clicked on it. Remember that sometimes more than one author has the same name. The one you're looking for has an author picture. If it still isn't working, check your seedling page again. I had to click it twice.

>61 anaraine: Thank you! Your help on #2 was very helpful.

Thanks for a great destraction during lockdown in UK but I'm thinking I must be the only non-cooking dummy in the pack as I have absolutely no idea about #9. Any help gratefully accepted!

I've got them all but the last one won't register as solved, so it keeps telling me I've got 13 out of 14. *grumble*
176Maaly_Ahmed
Thanks for the hunt it was fun
177browner56
Thanks LT, this was a nice diversion from being cooped up too long! I got them all, but I needed help on 5, 6, and 11. Thanks also to everyone who provided such great hints—helpful, without giving things away completely. Stay socially distant, y’all!

>178 Oregonreader: Part of the hunts is learning more about parts of LT you haven't explored yet.
So enter the tag you want to search for in the site search box at the upper right. You will get the search page filled with works that fit the search. On the left you see a menu of other things you might have wanted to search. Click on 'Authors' if you want an author by that name. Series, Tags, and so on. If you haven't found this before, it will make finding things on LibraryThing much easier.

Finally finished! This was a nice brain teaser in these isolated times.

>161 ahef1963: ... I clicked on the work, first ... and then clicked on her name. It took me to the same page I had original found when just searching her name. But this time I got the seedling!

>165 Ross.Farnsworth: ... search for Thunderbolt kid that will lead you to the author ... then look for a work that fulfills the clue.

portmanteau means to blend two words together, like brangelina meant brad + angelina. So pick the two words in the last line and turn them into one big blended word, then look for that tag. It wasn't a word I ever would have figured out myself Hope this helps.

I need help with #4, #5 and #11 please
195bellsreads
I still can't figure it out
196MinaGerhart
I just got all 14 seedlings 8D. Good luck all!
197thesantosfam4
Hey there! Such a fun Sunday morning treasure hunt! Thank you! The "answer" to the first clue is wrong though - the poem is found in a different book than the one which gives the seedling!

Double post
199robert.kuropkat
Is search broken? It takes a really long time and then comes back with zero hits...
200SDaisy
Yay! Found them all! I'm really looking forward to seeing if I win a t-shirt, they look awesome!

Whew! All done! Earlier today I asked my husband to play this with me but he preferred to play with his guitar. 2 hours later, I had one left and could not figure it out. He walked in the room and knew the answer to #14 immediately. Grrrrr! Ha ha ha! This was fun!!!
205floremolla
Usually I'd be planting seedlings but it's almost as satisfying to hunt them instead.
Thank you >1 kjgormley: and all at LT for organising this puzzle. And conceptDawg for the robin watercolour - love his loose style.

This was a welcome diversion and didn't contain the "C" word. Thanks so much!

This was so much fun! Thank you LibraryThing. I love these treasure hunts.
209Ross.Farnsworth
that did it, now I got it, no I don't have any of his books...Will have to give him a try...

Thanks, LibraryThing, for this very enjoyable Spring Treasure Hunt. Thanks also to the posters to this topic. Without your hints, I would never have been able to find all fourteen of the seedlings.

>203 LisaMorr: You are most welcome. I'm pleased to have been able to pay forward some of the help that I've received here.

This hunt was fun, thank you! I love the European Robin sketch - I wish it were available as a prize :)
213fdholt
Took me a while but I have them all. #5 was really difficult and I did need a few hints.
Thanks to LT staff for making "stay at home" such fun.

Thank you very much for a delightful diversion! the European Robin illustration is really wonderful, worthy of framing! Thank you conceptDawg for your great artwork on all these fun hunts.

This is the first time I have done a treasure hunt on LT. I enjoyed it very much. Still working on a couple of them.

I think you're right.

#14 is killing me
219melsmarsh
I know exactly who 14 is (confirmed with wikipedia) but the seedling isn't coming for any of his works or pages. It's my only one left.

>218 mattdocmartin: #14 "I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness"
222jjmcgaffey
I had all but one (with some Googling) before I came here - the clue in >9 alexa_d: gave me what I needed. Like others, I was fixated on the W and T . >161 ahef1963:, >183 BookConcierge: - I found the same thing; I had to get to the author via the book before I got the seedling, the direct link didn't work.
Several I just knew (I love the book Cats is based on, I knew the big poem, I'm enough of a gardener that #5 was a familiar word). Some I had zero idea but managed to find enough cue words to search it, either on LT or on Google (the cookbook, the Wild Geese one, the one with the caterpillar). Lots of fun.

WOW!!!! You saved my brain.
I was stuck on a different guy and book of poems.
TS, which ALSO gave me one, and also met criteria for #14

#12

>219 melsmarsh: Have you double checked the main challenge page? I had that experience with # 12 ... I had clicked on the work several times but never got the seedling. Then when I went to refresh the original challenge page ... VOILA ... it showed that I had found that particular seedling!
228HeatherMoss
Wow, I accidentally found out this hunt was happening at 4:45 pm EST, because I was looking up one of the other books since I bought it yesterday. I finished the whole hunt and got all the seeds by 4:59! My heart is beating so fast.
229SPSON-SI
I got 13 out of the 14 seedlings. I was pretty upset that I didn't get number 5 with the cubbyhole. Maybe next time.

Hi all! The Spring Hunt is officially over, as of 5pm EDT yesterday. We had just over 1400 members join us for the hunt, with a 54% completion rate. Good job!
Later today, I'll pull out a random 5 members who found all seedlings, who will then be eligible to win LibraryThing swag. I'll announce that here and also comment individually.
Thanks for playing, everyone! Stay tuned to SOTT, our social media, and homepage announcements for information about the next treasure hunt.

>244 Penny_L:
No, not yet. Too busy with the site redesign, the series re-do, and general Covid-19 malaise. I suspect we'll get both badges at the same time.

LOVE the book hunts. They challenge me in ways far outside of my expertise and make me think outside of my comfort zone. Hoping that there is a late summer or early fall hunt. I always love a good challenge.
Thank you.
Thank you.
