The Spring Seedling Hunt

1kjgormley
Edited: Apr 21, 2020, 11:54 am

Happy Spring!

We've germinated 14 clues for you to solve around the themes of spring and also National Poetry Month. Read and solve each clue, then find the page on LibraryThing that matches your solution. When you find the right solution, you’ll see a banner at the top of your screen announcing that you’ve found a seedling. Remember: it's not necessarily a work page!

Go here for the hunt!

You have one week—until Tuesday, April 28th at 5pm EDT—to find as many seedlings as you can.

Use this thread to brag, ask for and give hints, etc

As in past hunts, we'll be awarding profile badges to anyone who finds at least one seedling, and anyone who finds all 14 will be entered into a drawing for a LibraryThing or TinyCat t-shirt of their choice, to be shipped when possible given distancing constraints.

Important: When giving hints, please use the spoiler tag. To mark something as a spoiler, start your message like this:

<spoiler>

And end it like this:

</spoiler>

Troubleshooting

If you’re not seeing banners, or the hunt is otherwise not working for you, you may be using the old site design. Hunts don’t work on the old version of the site. You can switch to the new version by going here. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and look under "Design." You can always switch back after the treasure hunt, if you like.

Happy hunting!

P.S. Thanks to @conceptDawg for the gorgeous European Robin illustration! He's made many of our treasure hunt graphics in the last couple years. We like them, and hope you do, too!

5. There are a couple of clues already, but think about agricultural ecosystems that are intended to be sustainable and self-sufficient and then start weeding through tags.

11. I was stumped by this one until I realized that you replace the T with two letters, not one; the author was born in the US but met their spouse in England. Then check out their works for the applicable book.

2. It's also a movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Got 13 on my own. Struggled a long time then finally checked on this thread for #1 because...

>39 mahsdad: You are correct.

>51 lilithcat: I paged through the book and checked the index that is the "answer" to #1 and it definitely is *not* in that book.

#2 also took me a bit until I stopped trying to read more complexity into it than there was and kept it simple. Then it was easy peasy.

158Thacia
Apr 24, 2020, 12:53 am

Holy Cow! #2 was driving me crazy. I couldn't figure it out so I looked at a hint. The seedling hint said catch so I thought it was Catch Me If You Can. It took me forever.

159Heather19
Apr 24, 2020, 1:16 am

I completely overthought #2 as well, I got stuck on the second-to-last line and spent way too much time fixating on that instead of the whole clue.

I'm now done, got all 14! I'm always torn between wishing the hunt was bigger (like, at least 20 clues) and knowing it'd probably turn stressful if there was that many.

Thank you to everyone who made this 'seedling' hunt possible!

I had some trouble with that one as well. The issue is, you've probably already clicked on it. Remember that sometimes more than one author has the same name. The one you're looking for has an author picture. If it still isn't working, check your seedling page again. I had to click it twice.

So enter the tag you want to search for in the site search box at the upper right. You will get the search page filled with works that fit the search. On the left you see a menu of other things you might have wanted to search. Click on 'Authors' if you want an author by that name. Series, Tags, and so on. Several I just knew (I love the book Cats is based on, I knew the big poem, I'm enough of a gardener that #5 was a familiar word).
