>60 cameling: Oh, I dunno...I think we had a great blizzard celebration...TDM and I had a HUGE HUGE fight! Something Tennessee Williams would've envied! Think Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf only mean.

Had we sold tickets, everyone would've left impressed at the fearlessness of the performance, and the verismilitude of the subject matter. In the end, of course, we ended up hugging and saying how much we loved each other, but a donnybrook isn't to be missed once in a way.

Yeah, the seimometers in the Canary Islands went off...they called to see if it was just us, or the end of the world.

I have now taken so many pain pills that I simply wouldn't care if it WAS the end of the world! Three oxycontin and nothing seems too terrible, ya know? I'm still not movin' around much, but sitting is less uncomfortable.

My old roommate Eric and his bride-to-be Chrystina gave me the most wonderful, thoughtful Xmas gift I've received: A gift card for Kiva, a microlending organization that connects small donors with the needy poor who have an idea for a business that they can't fund. I was touched at their thoughtfulness, at first, and then when I went to spend my donation at the site, I was moved to tears at how very, very little it takes to help change an entire life's course.

Pain be damned, I have had a wonderful day just because of that!

Richard... I love the organizations that give us a chance to make a difference. For the past three years, my mom has given everyone something from Heifer Intl and another (can't remember the name) organization. This year, she made one big donation in all our names so we could all see the entire list. It really doesn't take a lot of money, and we got pigs, chickens, mosquito nets, medicine for 3 sick children, a goat, rabbits, and uniforms and books to send two young girls to school. An awesome gift and way better than getting even books for Tutu.or games or more jewelry, or socks, etc. We all have so much STUFF that it's really great to know that we can help make someone's life a little better by not getting more stuff.....

66richardderus
Dec 27, 2010, 2:33 pm

>65 tututhefirst: EXACTLY how I felt! And the gift-givers are such young people, 24 & 25, that it's extra touching to me that they know me so well and don't just think of me as an old guy who's hard to buy stuff for. Everything about it made me feel very, very good, and happy.

67mckait
Dec 27, 2010, 3:36 pm

Yep. I also give to Heifer. It is one of my favorites. I have looked at Kiva a few times too. I have asked that people at work give to Heifer in my name instead of farb to me. They refuse. That makes it hard. I am going to have to work on that again.

I did say it was my last thread, you know..

Belva dear.. I am happy to see you and as I said somewhere else.. I hope that you are going to be able to be here a bit more this year :) I missed the belva flavor in our threads :)

Sincere thanks stas.. it was and is a bit scary. Listen to this..

his young neighbor ( she is in her thirties) came out and saw him lying in the snow bleeding profusely from several head and face wounds, and his nose.. He is in his eighties .. he was scared and confused. He couldn't get up. She called from her door to ask if he needed help. It was too icy, and he couldn't get up. He was trying to call my sister on his cell, but broken glasses and blood in his eyes hindered him. It was early morning and my sister was still in bed.

The young woman asked if he needed help.. he said I am calling my daughter.. she WENT BACK INSIDE. By the time he reached Deb, and she and her husband got dressed, scraped some of the ice off the windshield and got the one block to him.. we have no idea how long he lay there.

I am trying to figure out wtf she was thinking.. if you don't want to go and help, or feel unable to .. then call 911!!! Why, for that matter my sister didn't do the same is a mystery to me. She made him go in and change clothes before taking him to the hospital.

Well, I shouldn't judge.. but the way it all played out appalls me.
He does have a broken nose.. and nothing else broken.. but his elbow and knee are very painful. His glasses are broken. He is a mess. I just talked to him the other day about LifeAlert. He needs to get that.. I told him so that night. He fell once a year ago.. out of bed. He was tangled in his blankets and it was dark. He couldn't get up.. he thought he had gone blind, since the blankets kept him from seeing light. It took him ?? long to get to where he could reach a phone. It is a terrible worry. I am going to call today to have LifeAlert send him some materiel ....

okay.. carry on. I need to run to the store, and I am going to do it in a few, to avoid the masses.

74alcottacre
Dec 31, 2010, 7:18 am

#73: The young woman asked if he needed help.. he said I am calling my daughter.. she WENT BACK INSIDE

I find that appalling behavior! Unfortunately, I also find it all too common in these days of lawsuits. People are afraid to help out other people.

75richardderus
Dec 31, 2010, 7:19 am

She made him go in and change clothes before taking him to the hospital.

WTF?!

What is *wrong* with people?!? BRING THE CLOTHES TO THE ER!

Poor Walter, that must have been really scary. Your common sense clearly needs to be seeded about amongst the populace of the area. Can we aerosolize say 25% of it, thereby tripling the area supply? LifeAlert sounds like a great idea, if the stubborn old coot can be persuaded to use it, and after this maybe he can!

76mckait
Dec 31, 2010, 7:22 am

I know.. but at least he is okay. He refused to stay at my sister's house last night.. and would be filled with horror at the idea of staying here.. so.. I am going to see if maybe America's Best or somewhere is open today so he can get glasses and see.

I hope this has given him enough of a scare to get the LifeAlert. . .

Being a bit "older" I have a lot of empathy for those who are staring loss of independence square in the face. I am holding your family in my heart and hope Walter will be able to see he is doing his family a wonderful favor by having a way to contact help quickly and efficiently when he wants help. I could rationalize it (Life Alert, or something similar) for myself by telling myself I am giving my family a gift.

Good Morning, Kath. Ah! I applaud seniors who decide it's time for a Life Alert. My mom will have none of it and I don't think she understands that it would help me out as much as it would help her. I always tell my son, when I'm old and I don't see the sensible thing to do, just gently slap me and say "Mom, snap out of it!" Anywho, that's a long way off, hopefully.

Happy New Year to you too, Kath!

Glad to hear your stepfather is ok. How very scary and what a rotten "neighbor".

My mom had a LifeAlert that she wore around her neck. She did have to use it a couple of times and thank god she had it when she needed it. (Although once she waited several hours after falling to use it because she didn't want to bother anyone.)

87curlysue
Dec 31, 2010, 1:35 pm

Happy New Year Kath! :)

I was not well liked by some when I took my last cruise. Waiting for the elevators there was always a crowd of people and there was always one or two that were in wheelchairs or had walkers. (one man was waiting so long with his walker his legs were shaking)

Clearly able bodied people that could use the stairs were jumping in front of a wheelchair or walker person forcing them to wait for the next elevator. I just couldn't believe how inconsiderate and RUDE these people were being so I butted in front of everybody and held the elevator doors open and would not let anyone in until the wheelchair or walker got on. ( I did this on 2 occasions) And while doing this I made the comment that those that can use the stairs should because clearly he/she can't and how rude people were being. Boy did I get looks LOL but you know what, I don't care!, I know I did the right thing :)

I saw a lady I helped (she was in a wheelchair) later that night and I asked her how her elevator ride was and she said it was great! and we chuckled about it :) made me happy

people these days are so uncaring....

glad Walter is ok

95mckait
Jan 1, 2011, 6:33 am

I just pulled up my list of books read in 2009..I read TEN fewer in 2010..lol
Maybe in 2011 I will catch up with myself.. or not. Maybe someday I will even outdo myself!

We shall see what the year brings. As long it it brings good things, I am content. As much as I enjoy reading, I never want to do it to the exclusion of other things I enjoy, like talking with friends.. doing plain old nothing with my furkids.. and spending pure "with" time with my kids. Just enjoying having them with me, talking about everything and nothing.

So.. for this year? My challenge to myself is to read all the books I want to read, and for many more of the books I choose to be off of my shelves. I don't want to miss any good ones, but then, there are other things I don't want to miss...

96mckait

#95: My challenge to myself is to read all the books I want to read

I like the sounds of your challenge, Kath!

98mckait
Jan 1, 2011, 6:40 am

hmmm but the "want" has a rather nebulous meaning here..
I might be the only one here not determined to read more..
I want to be able to read when I want to read, but I want to do
other things more, too. Like walking in the rain..raking leaves..
stepping away from the laptop and book for some time every day.
The books won't be going anywhere..

I don't want to read just to READ. I don't want to read to get to
a certain number. I want to relax into it even more than I did this year.
I think it will be hard in some ways.. because it is hard to tear myself away from LT and my friends here...

But there you have it. I guess I want to read less, if I feel like reading less..
and feel and do more outside of a book. Well. We shall see what the year brings eh? I hope it is good things for us all.

99alcottacre
Jan 1, 2011, 6:52 am

I am wanting to read less this year too, Kath. I read 490 in 2008, 542 in 2009, and 578 in 2010. This trend cannot continue! I am really hoping to lower it to around 400 for 2011.

Hi Kath. I'm intrigued by your wish to "read less" this year. I think you're onto something there. I spend so much of my day here at my laptop, and sometimes it's hard to find a balance between work here and other things--although I guess I'm going through a patch in my life where I'm seeking focus more than balance.

But it's still important to take time out to smell the begonias.

Here's to a great New Year!

Jan 1, 2011, 9:52 am

Hmmmm.... philosophical approachs to the new year. Interesting.

I think in my case it's more *quality* time I need for reading. I've been snatching bits of time here and there which is so unsatisfying when reading a good book.
Either that, or I am trying to read when I am tired - missing too much. If I went to bed earlier and got up earlier... aaarrrrgggghhhh!, I could grab a peaceful hour out on the back deck before the others get up. :PPP
That'll never fly. Oh dear. What to do.

I so with you on reading because I want to read, and not reading because i want to achieve a certain number of books before the end of the year, Kath. I want to read what I want to read when I want to read, and I want to be stronger about ditching the ones that I don't like rather than guilting myself into trying to finish it and feeling miserable the whole time. Life is too short to be miserable if one can help it.

So I stand arm-in-arm with you .... well, maybe not arm-in-arm... since that would make it difficult to do so many things, like taking a shower, rolling dough, shoveling and reading .... I'll stand by you... ahh..better .... in wanting this year to be about not missing life. :-)

My readings and LT time meanders a bit with the seasons, in winter I am reading more, in spring and fall the garden needs attention and when it it too warm in the summer I do nearly nothing, because I don't take warm weather too well.

have a good year :-)

I understand about reading because I want to read, and not reading because of some agenda - a few years back I entered some 30 different challenges. It nearly drove me mad as I had melt downs trying to get books because the met the criteria of this, that or the other challenge. I was not enjoying half of what I read. So I went into melt down and read nothing except childhood favourites for a couple of months. Could bear to look at my TBR pile.

That is why I love TIOLI - can join in or not as the mood takes me. I am also doing the 11 in 11 - again pick my own categories and the number of books in each. Finally reducing my TBR pile challenge. No pressure :)

Only pressure is my increasing wish list as I pop into my friends threads :)

Hi Sally.. welcome :)
I have looked into the TIOLI a few times, but have not tried it..
I just bumble along.. Reducing your TBR pile? that won't last long around here..

I am well into my first book of the year. I started it this afternoon.
After a VERY lengthy prologue.. which was V interesting, I am over 150 pages in. I am loving the book.. but am suddenly startled at the lunch they just enjoyed

Hope you have a good day...promises to bea bit cooler, but I'm not complaining.

I'm with you on the reading thoughts. I never feel obligated to read a book, even if it's one for which I owe a review. If the spirit doesn't move me, I don't force it...there are too many other things to do around here. I don't read to rack up points, or reviews, either (I mean number wise)....I don't read books that don't, ultimately, "work" for me (I don't read crap!)...and I still don't read Romance Novels!

But I do read my friends' threads, here on LT...which is an experience unto itself!

Tea "without" ( herbal) does the same..

Amen, to your philosophy of reading, Kath. That's how I roll, too. ;-)

Family is, was, and always will be my priority. Friends come a close second. The books are necessary for my mental health. As long as I can read something I enjoy each day, I'm good...even if it's for 15 minutes...which is about all I've been able to imagine on this quick Texas trip.

Have a great Sunday!

Jan 2, 2011, 8:58 am

I hear ya... truly, I do, Kath!

I worked with doctors and know they are only human... not the gods previous generations have made them out to be.
But this doc is different than most... I'll try to work with him for my health.
He doesn't dictate. He makes recs.
I will try the ones that seem most reasonable to me.
I'm NOT giving up coffee... just the caffeine - IF it works!
If not, back to the "high test"!

Jan 2, 2011, 9:05 am

OK, now that I've spent one whole hour on my Sunday morning reading LT threads, and posting a few little innocent comments, and drinking the first big latte of the day...I might pick up a book and gosh...read.

I am actually going to try keeping track for a while of the time I actually spend with my computer on and me looking at it. I've been finding it is hard on my eyes, on my housekeeping efforts, and on my getting some very good books read. I think if I drop the denial, and see just how long I spend, daily, on this time sink...maybe I'll redeploy.

Happy New Year!

149mckait
Jan 2, 2011, 9:10 am

Sorry.. didn't mean to sound preachy
they just all seem to have the same list
no matter the issue at hand

1. you are too fat
2. too much caffeine
3. take this list of 7 tests so I can still not manage a diagnosis.
I swear there were better diagnosticians before all the fancy stuff came down the pike..

And yet.. when you go into a room with them.. and they have the wrong chart.. and have an xray of someone else's ( wrong) body part up.. they still feel like they can tell you ( see #1)

I agree. I am too fat. That is not why I have a torn rotator cuff.

Oh dear, this could turn into a vent/rant.. so I quit.

Good luck with this tho, and I hope it helps you!

151mckait
Edited: Jan 2, 2011, 9:22 am

Weight is one of the last ways we can be discriminatory and/or insulting.
Or, be discriminated against or insulted. I know I am too heavy. I am not sedentary. I do 2 miles of brisk walking on the mornings a month at a time, when I do bus duty. I chase 8 toddlers all day. Then I am tired.

I dare say that I don't eat as much as most "normal" weight persons.
I do not blame it on on my under active and half missing, thyroid..
I don't eat what I should I guess. 2 cups of coffee for breakfast
either tomato soup or 6-8 crackers + 2 slices of cheese for lunch..
dinner?? whatever

snacks?
If I do, i take a handful of chips in a napkin.. or pretzels or ?
I am not too big a fan of sweets
I do eat bread but if I eat 2 pieces of toast every day ( which I do not)

yet?

whatever.

I am still insulted/ hurt on an almost daily basis by things I hear said around me.. even if they are not said about me myself. IT contributes greatly to my social anxiety.. and feelings of not being good enough.

ahem

*leaves*

152-Cee-
Jan 2, 2011, 9:52 am

I've been skinny and fat - several times, over and over.
I'm finally settling down to "take me as I am".
I'm much overweight - but I have enough to deal with otherwise- not gonna diet again anytime soon. (Just giving up caffeine so my belly won't hurt.)

I think it's much more important to be beautiful and gracious in spirit.

Kath, you are most UNfortunate to be daily around people with attitudes that are despicable in so many ways... steming from their own insecurity, I imagine.
Don't judge yourself by their comments. I know there are many who see you are truly beautiful in and out - and love you dearly ... and I'm one of them. :)
If only there was a mirror that could show us our true beauty!

153maggie1944
Jan 2, 2011, 10:10 am

From the day I started puberty to this very day I have been overweight. It took me years of living, reading, some therapy, and the positive regard I saw in the eyes of my friends for me to get to a point where I really, really realized in my heart of hearts that I was good enough. No more striving to meet someone else's expectations of me, no matter who was doing the expecting. I am just fine, as I am. Good enough. The universe must support my being as I am, because I am still here.

I know I am too heavy.

I don't know about that. There is a big difference between weighing more than Lindsay Lohan and being obese to the point that it will negatively impact your health. And my comment certainly wasn't directed at you, either - you've always looked nice and healthy to me, and I know how physically demanding your job is!

What makes me roll my eyes are the people who are morbidly morbidly morbidly obese and go to doctors for more and more pills to make themselves feel better, when a slight change in lifestyle can do so much more for them.

I was raised with body issues, and unfortunately a lot of that has stayed with me as an adult. Those issues only pertain to my own body, though - I don't believe there is such thing as an "ideal" for either sex of any age; a person can wear their body well (and work well in it!) in a very wide range of sizes. After all, both Trixie Little and Dirty Martini are absolutely fabulous burlesque dancers, and their bodies couldn't be more different!

And oh dear gooodness does the BMI scale make me angry. It was NEVER intended to judge a person's health, and yet somehow it has become a standard - even for toddlers. I have a friend who is a professional Strongman competitor, and he can't get health insurance because the BMI scale marks him as morbidly obese. The man can life my minivan, but he's too "fat" according to some stupid chart.

159mckait
Jan 2, 2011, 11:27 am

oh honey.. I know you weren't directing it at me..
it just set me off.. I am a little on edge today I guess

That BMI drove me crazy when y daughter was in college..
she was a size 7/8 or so and her pr woman said she had too much "fat".
She still has issues over it.. and she is still about a size 8-10, runs daily and does marathons etc.

grrr

And my daughter in law is hugely guilty of the meanness factor. We were all out at a pub once and a young woman who was maybe a size 14/16? A beautiful, blond and cheerful girl was dancing. My "Fitness" competitor daughter in law said "I sure wouldn't dance in front of people if I looked like that. " Hard to get over..

sigh

160London_StJ
Jan 2, 2011, 11:44 am

Oh my. That's just ... completely and totally uncalled for in every way. Both the PR woman and the competitor. Oy.

One of my very dearest friends obsesses over her own weight, and then over her sister's weight to a very mean and nasty level that leaves me concerned. Her older sister is probably ... 5'8" or so? And weighs well over 200 pounds (I should not know that). Does she eat poorly? Yes, but I have a feeling that most stay-at-home moms of toddlers do. But I spent most of this past summer with her because her son is six months older than B, and she literally runs around with that child nonstop. Her level of energy and activity just blows my mind. My friend is constantly telling me how her sister is going to die because of her weight, and it just blows my mind.

161maggie1944
Jan 2, 2011, 11:50 am

I totally agree with "most stay-at-home moms of toddlers do." (eat poorly) I have a really hard time squeezing my good eating in between trying to get those kids to eat something which is not totally covered, or imbued, with sugar.

1. World Voyagers : The True Story of a Veterinarian a Renaissance Man and Stewart the Cat

This is a wonderful book. A true story. A picture of three plus
years in the lives of two pretty unusual people. It is also the story
of others like them who make the choice to live around the globe
and not on a tiny spot such as most of us choose. There is humor, adventure
and grief. There is fear and the joy that comes with conquering
what seems to be insurmountable odds against these two travelers.

If you are looking for fine literature, look somewhere else.
This is not the work of a practiced author. This is a book for someone
who is looking for a good story well told.

Here you will find not only word pictures of places most of us only long to visit,
but you will find actual pictures. There is a story to be had from every port
along the way. You will meet the people they met, and learn those stories too.

What is it like in Tahiti? What are the people like? What do they eat, wear
or care about? Here is where you will find it. Have you ever dreamed of Island life? Or sailing the ocean in a beautiful craft? Living life on your own terms? This is the story of two people who did just that. Only much to their surprise, their own terms had to be adjusted on an almost daily basis.

Amy, is veterinarian in the book. She is typically caring.. but has a wide streak of pragmatism that shows up now and then. Her husband the boat builder is the dreamer, I think? This book is far from typical. Just have a look at the cover, which gives the tiniest of hints to the unusual adventure that you will find within.

Recommended 4 stars.

2. The Dead Path by Stephen M Irwin

Horror. There is plenty of that in this story. Nicholas has always been just a little bit different. Even his mother thinks so. That is why she is not quite eager to see him after the sudden and unfortunate accident that took the life of his young wife. And began the visions of death that were suddenly an unavoidable part of Nicholas life. Now, since losing Cate, Nicholas can see those who have died sudden deaths. He has seen Cate's as well. He is terrified and
undone.

But Cate's death is just the beginning. Once back in his childhood home, a young boy gone missing brings back memories of a friend. Another young boy gone missing years before. Trying to run from the visions and the memories only make it worse. He sees more death, more terror, more horror. And then something clicks. Old photographs, old memories and then the question, is there a connection ?

Don't read this one when you are home alone in the dark.

Re the whole weight stuff -- My ONLY criteria these days is tied to energy. I know that the more I weigh and the less I exercise, the less energy I have. If I want more energy, I know what I gotta do.

OOO good reviews to start the New Year with!

Body image/body weight discussion: I'm a big boy. No matter what I do, no matter how I use the body, I'm a big boy. I don't fit their stupid charts, and I told the last doc to holler at me about weight that he should look at my chart and see what my blood pressure, HDL/LDL levels and ratios are, and then tell me I need to lose weight. He belted up and never brought the subject up again.

I care only and I do mean **ONLY** about the ability of a person to move, to use the body they've got to live the life they want. Kathleen isn't overweight...her body knows where it wants to be...and this is NOT an inactive or sedentary person, so I'd like to announce to the Universe that these body nazis with their charts and their aesthetic terrorism need to shut the FUCK up and go back to the bloody gym where their fellow travelers drink protein shakes and eat biologically appropriate raw foods. *shudder*

There. I feel better now.

aww y'all are so sweet!

That was a good rant rdear..

ok.. I have had a weird 24 hours.
yesterday..cory left.. and came right back because he couldn't find his
earbuds for his blackberry. We looked everywhere. nothing.
he left again figuring he had to buy new ones.

later.. on about my third trip into the kitchen..
i found it lying on the floor all spread out..
right in the middle of the floor.

hmmm

today I was getting out of the car.. and found white earbuds hanging from the handles of my litter bag. Further investigation .. it is an iPod. A teeny square pink one. Turning it on .. hoping for a message from beyond or something. . .
it is Clay Aiken reading his bio.

No one has been in my car for WEEKS!

not even my kids.

seriously.. weird or what?

love the raccoon btw.. even his creepy grin :)

191cameling
Jan 3, 2011, 4:45 pm

Kath... don't turn around but.... the earbuds are stalking you! ;-) Could have been furkids pranking Cory and hiding his earbuds in the house until he left ..again, before dragging them out and putting them in the middle of the floor for you to find.

As for the link iPod ...teeny square one sounds like an iPod Shuffle. Could have accidentally fallen into your bag if you had taken it to school. One of the other teachers, parents or kids could have been wandering near your bag perhaps or helped you load something into your car and their iPod fell out? If you can't find the owner, you're now the proud owner of a pink iPod shuffle. One way to try and find the other .. plug it into your computer .. and if you have an iTunes app on your computer, it will detect the iPod and the iPod's identity. That may give you the name of the owner.

Kath

Ouch..ouch..ouch.. A torn rotator cuff is very painful. I had hoped that 2011 would be a healthy one for us...

Chiming in on the weight discussion. I HAD a "friend" who was super skinny. Years ago I had necessary breast reduction surgery. Her comment to me after surgery was "Well, now that you have had surgery and have less in that area, perhaps you will be motivated to loose more in other parts of your body!"

The next day she arrived at my door, soup in hand, child in tow. As they were leaving, her three year old son told me I was fat. She laughed and thought it was funny.

The friendship ended that day. I was appalled that she and her husband obviously were schooling their bratty kids to define beauty.

Ok, now I'm on a rant. Rants are allowed here right?

Yeah.. I would share another story but, I just don't want to think about it.

But today is another day..

They are making noises now about NOT totaling Amy's car. This has been going on for a month or so...but she has a good rental in the meantime. I wish they would total it.. we shall see.

She is moving onto her house on saturday..
any big brawny guys wanna help?

ok.. the place where I go to have my hair cut went out of business.

But it seemed a much better idea then than it does now. lol

I hate going to new hair cut places...my hair is tricky, you can't cut it too short or I will have a mushroom head...you can't brush it or mess with it too much or I will have a mushroom head.... and on and on and on

just wet cut please, take maybe an inch off and if you know how to layer then do it and let me go :)

Just chiming in to say that I loved your comment, Kath, about how too many people think
overweight=lazy face stuffer
That's so true!

I've struggled with my weight all my life, and it amazes me the prejudice that overweight people face. Sure, some overweight people are probably lazy and eat fattening foods all day long, but plenty are not like that. Before we judge someone, we should know of what we speak, right? It's hard to see from the outside what is going on in another person's mind and body - what they are truly dealing with. And unless we can see that, I don't think we are entitled to pass judgments.

if I got through yesterday...

Barb was out.. they put a bus aide in as a sub for barb. ridiculous.
A bus aide is not a room sub. The way the system works is the agency
pays a bus aide 10+ $ and hour to ride with a kid. They then LEAVE the aide at school.. and pay them all day.. but they are not to be with the kid they ride with. The school places them as extra help or? Often a feeder. This is just stupid. So may of our kids have feeding issues.. it just doesn't. work. They often replace a therapist or someone familiar with the kids to give them a break. We are trying to teach our kids to feed themselves i many cases.. or feeding kids with swallow issues or seizures. ( ew what is wrong with him??? has been asked) this aide couldn't even remember which two of our kids cannot walk on their own. IT is pretty obvious, frankly.

aside from my lunch, which due to scheduling in preschool..has been cut to about 22 minutes a day. I get no break.. except on thursday at 10 30 . unless call offs mean music is canceled. this happens about once a month.

so.. during a typical month.. I get a 30 minute break 3x. minus the time to get the kids to specials . During this break, I usually have to clean up the bathroom after our single "independent" student. I also fill drinks for their lunch which is at 11 30

My " lunch" .. Officially it is 30 minutes. But after waiting for the feeders to show up, and getting lunch set up in the room...it is more like the 22 minutes. And during all of one week and during two days of the next week. This makes for long days. I had a very rough time sleeping last night..

Work is one thing, but since adding the new program , much has been taken away from preschool. This includes decent subs.. and also special programs and therapy time.

oh yeah. The speech therapist was supposed to be in our room yesterday.
( from 10- 2 minus 12-1:30 so this means 2 hours...8 kids. ) IT would have been a help.. but, she called off too. It is sheer aggravation that kept me up. I then came home and cooked. Oh first I had to go to the store. Dan was off... but he didn't get the milk for the morning coffee today. he forgot. So I left school, went to the store, got a haircut, cooked spaghetti. . . then had to put the dishes ( he washed ) away. I felt very sorry for myself. :PPP
