About the Author

Albert Uderzo was born on April 25, 1927 in Fismes, France as Alberto Aleondro Uderzo. In 1940, when he was just 13, he worked for Paris Publishing Society where he learned the basics for his profession - designing text and letters and editing photos. During World War II he worked on a farm and show more later as a furniture maker with his father. His drawing skills were put aside until 1945 when he entered a comic strip competition and later worked on a cartoon film titled Clic Clac. In the mean time he moved to Paris and worked on the magazine O.K. where he created several comics such as Arys Buck and Belloy. It was then that he met Rene Goscinny and the two worked on new comic book characters like Ompah-pah, Jehan Pistolet and Luc Junior. In 1959 they started a magazine called Pilote aimed at older children. It was the first issue that introduced the character Asterix and it was a big hit. By 1967 the comic became so popular that they decided to devote all their time to the series. Asterix Omnibus 10: Includes Asterix and the Magic… by Rene Goscinny

This was interesting collection. Before anything I would like to state that omnibuses are usually rather tricky - you might enjoy some comic or story teller when you read the stories as they get published but when you try to read them all at once it sometimes gets overwhelming.

First story is Asterix' adventure in far away India. Story is rather straight forward and jokes on famous Gaul troubadour aside story is pretty much straight forward veni-vidi-vici tale.
It seems like they tried to make a crossover of sorts between Iznogood and Asterix but at the last moment decided against it.

Second story is about feminism and its effect on the rather macho-man society in the Gaul village. It is funny to see how relations in the village change in a rather weird and funny way. I suppose that this story might irritate some with ultra PC mindset today (especially unexpected reaction from Asterix) but it is funny to see how everyone in the village is OK with women rights except when they are directly affected.

Third and the last story finally reveals why Obelix is forbidden to drink the magic potion. Same as the first story this one seems little bit rushed and ... uninspired might be the best word I guess but nevertheless entertaining. Atlantis adventure could easily be story in itself but here it is just rather brief event which looks like a missed opportunity.

So all in all solid collection, highly recommended to all fans of Asterix, Obelix and Co :)… (more)

Asterix and the Magic Carpet: Album #28 (Asterix… by Albert Uderzo

Art is great as usual but story seems rather rushed, not like in case of other tales. I would give it 3.5 stars.
Nevertheless for a fan of Asterix it was a great treat indeed.

Ehhehe, mélyen együtt tudok érezni a helvétekkel, akik rosszul vannak az összesározott padlótól, kosztól, rumlitól stb. A svájci bankok, a semlegesség poénjai is nagyon ültek, remek volt az egész.

Asterix Omnibus #1: Collects Asterix the Gaul,… by Rene Goscinny

First in a series of recompilations of the Asterix adventures; this one has the first three, including one outright classic, Asterix and the Goths, and the first one, a good one. A lot of the artwork is cleaned up -- a problem with previous printings in English was that the artwork could get a bit muddy. So good to have.
