adaorhell: Fiction. A book about poverty, loyalty and death from the point of view of a teenage boy in rural Oklahoma. Relatively short and easy to read. The author was a teenager when she wrote it.

adaorhell: Fiction (barely -- it's about the author's teenage life.) Very short. A book about power, sex, colonialism, and beauty from the point of view of a poor French girl in colonial Vietnam. The author and I have the same birthday and I admire her greatly.

adaorhell: Fiction. A "writer's writer" aka someone whose writing is most loved by other writers. Short stories about poverty, failure, and what we do to survive those things. Like being strangled with a fishing line.

adaorhell: Nonfiction. About the unsolved murder of a woman during The Troubles. at the end of the book, the author has solved the mystery and it's shocking and intense. Non-fiction but incredibly fast paced and addictive.

adaorhell: Fiction. A broke young man spends his days giving tours thru Tokyo's red light district to gross Americans, until one day he becomes terrified that the man he is giving a tour to is a serial killer. Short.

adaorhell: Fiction. A man comes home for work to find his wife committed an act of terrorism, and how he must come to grips with that and the destruction of his life.

adaorhell: Fiction. EXTREMELY scary. A family saga, a ghost story, a book about the Argentinian dictatorship, magic, revenge... I had to read this very very very slowly and it gave me nightmares. Really an incredible achievement and I've already planned to make this one of the books I re-read every year.

adaorhell: Nonfiction? Bodybuilding, sex, death, nationalism, warriors. A fave.

adaorhell: Fiction. Extremely short, horny and deranged. The unnamed narrator in a Swiss boarding school becomes more and more obsessed with Frederique, a mysterious and maybe insane girl.

adaorhell: Nonfiction. I don't even fuck with opera but an incredible history of the influence of Wagner on "the silent arts" -- mainly writing and painting -- including on women, black people, gay people and jewish people. Long. The audiobook has clips of music in it which helps.

adaorhell: Fiction. Short, sci fi stories from brilliant Japanese writer and actress. The mother of 'cyberpunk'. Very short.

adaorhell: Fiction. having lesbian sex to save your friend from vampires, evil priests, periods, talking cats. Surrealism from 1930s Czecho. Very short.

adaorhell: Nonfiction? Starting a band/coven, hating Norway, witchcraft, satanism, gross food, hysteria.

adaorhell: Nonfiction. A FAVE! basically what it says in the title. a history of women using the figure of Lucifer as a feminist liberator.

adaorhell: Nonfiction. Gay Italian communist filmmaker murdered by the mafia. A collection of his essays, poetry, and the last interview he gave a few hours before he was killed.

adaorhell: Nonfiction. Not up to my standards about Atlanta Rap (nothing could ever be) but a good general overview of the world I live in down here.
