We start this game with an author, surname
begining with a letter, "a" and complete a cycle of 26 authors or writers (from "a" to "z" for their surnames )
- a cycle of 26 postings per round.

These authors have lived up to 31st December,1999 or still living today.

Authors: Fiction/Non-Fiction writers, poets, playwrights, screenplay writers, illustrators and anyone in the book business.

State the year, the writer was born, and passed away (when applicable) or still living today."

Hazelk you say "have lived up to Dec 31, 1999", but the game is being played so that the author merely had to live in the 20th century. Many of the authors used have not "lived up to Dec 31, 1999" but all have lived in the 20th century. Are you saying that any author who lived in the 20th century is eligble to be used?

game was started by skoobdo (not me) and I have quoted skoobdo's introductory piece which includes 'have lived up to 31st December 1999 or still living today'. Hazelk, The way the game was started would seem to mean the author had to be alive Dec 31, 1999, but it has been played so that any author living in the 20th century is eligible. In fact, I played Sandra Day O'Connor, who as far as I know did not publish a book in the 20th century, the only book of hers I know of being published after the 20th century. Can we all agree that the requirement is that the author lived in the 20th century?

This game is applicable to the listing of the writers of non-fiction and fiction category who were born prior
to the 20th Century's era ( 1901- 2000 ) but were still living within the period of the 20th Century from 1st January,1901 to 31st December,2000.

We are now in the 21st Century, starting from 1st
January, 2001.

The works written by the writers who had lived until
31st December,1900 ( 19th Century ) but their works
were published only from 1st January,1901 ( for the
first time ) or reprints are NOT CONSIDERED as
" 20th Century " writers or authors. This is a clear-
cut rule to stop any misunderstandings while playing
this game.

Roland, re longest diary see this from the New York Times:

Mr. Shields’s 37.5 million words apparently exceeded the more than 21 million in the colorful diary of Edward Robb Ellis, a newspaperman who died in 1998, and the 17 million words of Arthur Crew Inman, a reclusive poet who died in 1963. The 17th-century London diary of Samuel Pepys was a mere 1.25 million words.

I've read some of Ellis' diary: A Diary of the Century: Tales from America's Greatest Diarist, by Edward Robb Ellis (read 18 May 1997)

" longest diary . . .Shieldsʻs 37.5 million words"
(469)

Thanks, Schmerguls. I didnʻt know about Shieldsʻs and Elllisʻs 1st and 2nd place status.
I didnʻt even catch, in reading -- well, scanning -- Inman that he was a oet, or a would-be poet. But I could see how he might well be a failure in any
serious literature he went in for.

While this is a 21st century book, he did publish a book called The Lowest of the Dead, showing the wrongness of capital punishment as applied, which I have not read, in the 20th century. So I hope it is OK to use him and this book even though I have not read his 20th century book, but would like too, since I think it would be good to read.
