Curious why this was so popular back when these were being published, I checked one out from my library. I wasn't to inspired to read it when the first page warned me that if I am attached to happy endings I should move along, but I was curious how it could be popular if it was unhappy and hoped the author was fibbing. No, he kind of wasn't. But I might read the next one anyway. :-)

I think my daughter asked to read this book 4 or 5 times a week for many weeks after we bought it.

There are much more eloquent reviews below, but you know it's a good book when a 3 year old is obsessed with it. I love the idea that we need the dark to appreciate the light, and that darkness cannot be escaped. It's everywhere, even when we close our eyes.
