There are a couple of links to instructions to add images or do other cool things to your posts on the Group Wiki page here

This and the Threadbook are linked in the group description so we can easily find them.

>19 drneutron: I finally found a credit for the image:

The Stories of Our Lives by Tracy Lundgren for a Book called This is Where I Live by Susan Cain

Although I have no confidence that that information is valid as I can't verify any of it. So, probably not. I found the image in 2022, probably on Facebook, before I resolved to credit my sources, even if I did not pay them.

It does fit in with Tracy Lundgren. So the artist is at least possible.

LT just made an "improvement" that will send a notification whenever you get a mention or reply in talk threads. Users with busy threads may want to turn this feature off at https://www.librarything.com/settings/notifications.

Announcement: https://www.librarything.com/topic/368384#

Feb 12, 2025, 4:36 pm

Very interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing how this works. I'm not sure which side of the fence I'll land. I watch my own thread pretty good, but it would be interesting to see when I'm mentioned in someone else's.

40norabelle414
Edited: Feb 12, 2025, 4:56 pm

You can also see all of your recent mentions, without a notification, under the new @Mentions button on the left sidebar in Talk. So you won't lose access to the new feature if you turn off the notification part.

The 13 books – 11 novels and two collections of short stories – feature 13 authors making their International Booker Prize debut, many of whom are literary sensations and award-winners in their home countries, and three previously longlisted translators.

The books on this year’s longlist are as follows:

The Book of Disappearance by Ibtisam Azem, translated from Arabic by Sinan Antoon

On the Calculation of Volume I by Solvej Balle, translated from Danish by Barbara J. Haveland

There's a Monster Behind the Door by Gaëlle Bélem, translated from French by Karen Fleetwood and Laëtitia Saint-Loubert

Solenoid by Mircea Cărtărescu, translated from Romanian by Sean Cotter

Reservoir Bitches by Dahlia de la Cerda, translated from Spanish by Heather Cleary and Julia Sanches

Small Boat by Vincent Delecroix, translated from French by Helen Stevenson

Hunchback by Saou Ichikawa, translated from Japanese by Polly Barton

Under the Eye of the Big Bird by Hiromi Kawakami, translated from Japanese by Asa Yoneda

Eurotrash by Christian Kracht, translated from German by Daniel Bowles

Perfection by Vincenzo Latronico, translated from Italian by Sophie Hughes

Heart Lamp by Banu Mushtaq, translated from Kannada by Deepa Bhasthi

On a Woman's Madness by Astrid Roemer, translated from Dutch by Lucy Scott

A Leopard-Skin Hat by Anne Serre, translated from French by Mark Hutchinson

Just thought I would post the list in case there was any interest!

It was recorded for Duchovny's podcast; "Fail Better"

Hi Folks, I'm conducting a poll to see what the interest is in doing the Christmas Book Swap this year. (yes it is getting to be that time). I just want to see, given the year we're having, if people want to still do it.

A few of us haunting the Halloween books thread decided we want to do a read/reread of F. Paul Wilson’s Secret History of the World series - some may know the Repairman Jack subseries.

We’ve started a planning thread here: https://www.librarything.com/topic/375083

The whole series has quite a few elements, but it’s one of my favorites! And you can have fun with just the Repairman Jack books if you’d rather slim it down.

Please join us!

Okay my poll was a mixed bag, but it was ultimately positive, so the Christmas Swap is on!

Come check out the thread - https://www.librarything.com/topic/375139

Post there if you want to join and PM me your address (if you've participated in the past and you haven't moved, then I probably have it)

Hard to believe it, but Merry Christmas!

For several reasons, I have decided that I will "retire" from hosting the American Authors Challenge at the end of this year. I have really enjoyed doing this since way back in 2019, but I'm experiencing a bit of burn-out, and also just feel the need to take a thing or two off my plate. I have been so pleased in the last couple years to have others take on a month here and there---thank you, Caroline, Kristel, Katie, Laura, and Paul for your excellent contributions to running this challenge. Maybe one or more of you -- or some other American literature lover -- will take up the reins for 2026. Or, perhaps it's time to give the Challenge a rest. But there are always new voices and unread books to discover. I won't be neglecting my reading of American authors (in fact, I hope I'll read a bit more next year...but that's nearly always my hope) and will certainly follow along if the Challenge continues.

Stasia (alcottacre) made a thread where we can remember our friend Caroline. From her first post:

“ We lost a dear friend, Caroline McElwee, just before Christmas 2025. She was someone that I admired and will greatly miss. I thought it appropriate that we have a place to post books that we are reading in memory of her, whether it was a book she recommended to you, or a book from her library - however you want to remember her.”

Thread’s here: https://www.librarything.com/topic/377046
