1. The Dragon's Eye byScott C. S. Stone
Micheal knew it couldn't be as easy as Leslie said. All he had to do was go into China and get Leigh and his girlfriend out. But when your in Asia nothing is ever easy.

2. The Ayes of Texas by Daniel da Cruz
Ok being a Texan and a military dependent may make me bias but this was a great book.
What were the Russians thinking trying to go up against the battleship Texas with a measly 23 ships. Seriously did they think they had a chance.

Just bit of FYI for friends and family, My sons and daughters-in-law bought me a Nook for Christmas, and contrary to popular belief there is nothing any where that says I can no longer buy books. In fact today I went and bought four books with no adverse effects at all. So those who haven't bought an e-reader because they don't want to give up books, the good news is you can have both.

3. A Christmas Carol by Charles DickensThis is a yearly re-read for me. Just love this book.

4. The TV Detective by Simon Hall
Dan loved being an ecological journalist. But his boss needed a Crime correspondent. At least he gets to shadow the police and learn from the ground up.

There have been so many versions of A Christmas Carol over the years - movies, cartoons, children's versions of the book - that I have forgotten what the real (original) version was like. I really should read it again.

Jan 14, 2013, 9:45 pm

Judy, I read it last Xmas (2011), it definitely is worth re-reading. (My favourite adaptation is the "Muppet Christmas Carol" movie. ;)

I actually love the musical ,Scrooge, with Albert Finney. But you can't beat the Muppets song With a Greatful Heart.

And I love the old Scrooge with Alastair Sim playing the lead role. Just love this one. Both the book and the movie. Y'all have good taste!

Not only are there cute pictures of cats and guns, they also added characteristics of the different breed of cats and specifications on the guns.

6. The Mystery of the Downs by John Watson

Marsland was just trying to get out of rain when he ducked into the doorway of an old house. There he finds a young lady waiting for someone but not him, and a body not waiting for anyone anymore. When the young lady starts leading the police to believe he's the murderer he has to try and find out why.

7. The Ambushers by Donald Hamilton

Matt Helms mission was an easy sniper job. So why is D.C. upset? It is not like he could put the bomb, he accidentally stumbled across, in his pack and bring it home.

Jan 27, 2013, 9:17 pm

8. The Intriguers by Donald Hamilton

Matt's partner is against violence so why is she even an agent? Oh yeah her father is Mac, Matt's boss, and she has her own agenda. Matt just hopes it doesn't kill him.

9. Moon Dance: Vampire for Hire by J. R. Rain

Sam was a Federal Agent for HUD when she was visiously attacked six years ago. Even though she found her life turned upside down she was determined to keep it normal. Well as normal as she can now that she's a vampire. So she opens up a Detective Agency. But her husband's affair with his sectertary leads to divorce and losing her kids.

I like the way the writer has her getting use to being a vampire and how it effects her life.

10. Best Tales of Edgar Allan Poe

Of course it was great it was Edgar Allan Poe.

Jan 27, 2013, 9:32 pm

11. The Poisonershas Matt Helm in Mexico looking for a killer known as Nicholas or " Santa Claus" to the agency. He winds up getting in the middle of a drug operation, and ends up going against his old enemy, Mr. Soo, who plans on poisoning the very air we breathe.

I like the fact that Donald Hamilton does not play up the gory action but instead focuses on the mental thought process of Helm.

Jan 27, 2013, 9:47 pm

12. Homeworld by Harry Harrison

Jan never knew he was a member of the elite class. Sure he knew that 9 out of 10 workers were on the dole (welfare) but he didn't now they considered themselves slaves. Sure they were told where they could live, what they could eat where they could go and who could get health care but that was in their best interest wasn't it?
As Jan discovers the truth about the way things really are in the world he also finds out that it is his brother-in-law's, Thurgood-Smythe, job to keep the truth from coming out. And he is determined to stop the truth even if it cost Jan dis life.

13. The Underachieving Gifted Child: Recognizing, Understanding and Reversing Underachievement by Del Siegle, Ph. D.

Wish I had this book when my boys were in school. The best the teachers could do was tell them to "apply" themselves more. This book gives practical strategies to help them reach their potential.

14. The Definitive Shelby Mustang 1965-1970

Loved this book. Took me back to my high school days when I had my '69 Mustang. I always envied the Shelby and anyone looking at this book will learn why. It has plenty of pictures, lots of history and the specifications on all of them. Just loved this book.

Death of a Citizen by Donald Hamilton
For 15 years Matt Helm enjoyed his retirement. Trying to get Matt back into the game isn't easy but trying to force him was a mistake she'll never live to regret.

As it always happens, life catches up to me and I get behind on my reviews. Not my reading this time though, I am way ahead in my reading with 57 out of the 100 that I set for my goal this year. I will try to get at least some of the books that I really enjoyed reviewed.
