hipdeep: I found the treatment of the main character's disability very interesting.

aulsmith: Not the best book at showing Miles' problems with his disability, but it's the start of the series.

lorax: In addition to the reasons for including its predecessor (black female author, diverse races of characters), the protagonist of this one is (mostly) blind. (I say "mostly" because she can see magic and gods, which play a major role in the plot, so she does spend much of the book being able to see at least some things.)

aulsmith : White, straight male

aulsmith : Great book, and Delany is neither straight nor white, but this book doesn't break any ground on minority issues.

hipdeep : Yes, it's in translation, and it's a translation by a woman, but as I recall it, this is mostly a lightweight survey of the history of philosophy, which bends toward the white and male. Good for what it is, but a weird "diversity" choice.
