After consulting with @clamairy, I will be updating and maintaining the Green Dragon Personal Reading Journals Master Thread.

Please post below, or send me a message if:

•I missed you (sorry), or you start a brand new thread.

•I made a mistake. (There are probably a few!)

•Your thread lives in another group, and you would like to have it included here.

•You have a reading blog outside of LibraryThing, and would like to share it with us.
(I'll make a separate list for those.)

Thanks, you two. I updated the GD group page so the Reading Journals link points to this new thread.

Also, I did have a 2015 thread, but it's missing from the links above. I just never got very far for obvious reasons. I am planning to add the rest of my 2015 reads at some point. It's here: http://www.librarything.com/topic/188158

Wish us luck. I am taking my kids to the Florida Keys for a few days. It's our first trip in a very long time. (Eleven years, to be exact.) We were all feeling the need for some sun, warmth and, mostly, a change of scenery.

>15 GreenDragon: Thanks for changing the link in the group description. And I added your 2015 thread to the list. Don't know why I didn't find it when I was digging around for everyone else's.

Hope you have a great trip! It's supposed to get cold and stormy here, so I be thinking of you in all that sun.

>15 GreenDragon: and >18 SylviaC: This is the real evidence that this group has become a community. Everyone contributes to the good of the whole to the best of their capabilities. And when one needs to step away for a bit, another steps forward. I, for one, can't tell you how much it is appreciated.

I have updated the list with all of the 2017 journal threads that I have been able to find. It is highly probable that I have missed some, or made mistakes. I would appreciate it if you could each check that the link by your name leads to your 2017 thread if you have one. And please let me know if I missed you, or if you have a journal in another group that you would like to have included in the Green Dragon listings.

Thank you! I wasn't expecting this so soon.

We need to talk about shifting the responsibility for this off your shoulders by turning it into a group wiki page. It might be a pain to do initially, but then folks can easily update their own links, and the rest of us can take care of the people who aren't comfortable doing their own updating.

>39 clamairy: It's not that big of a job once I got the formatting set up last year—just a matter of updating as new threads appear. The main disadvantage of doing it this way is that upkeep is tied to a single user. Either way is workable, and I'm content to continue as it is, or to assist in converting it to a wiki page if someone with more wiki experience wants to set it up.

53SylviaC
Jan 9, 2018, 8:19 am

>52 humouress: That's been mentioned before, but we haven't done anything about it. Frankly, at this point, it's easier for me to deal with the little flurry of activity in January than to migrate it to a wiki. But if anyone with wiki experience wants to organize one, I'd be happy to help. The biggest issue with the current format is that it's tied to a single user. On the other hand, I don't know how much participation we would get in maintaining a wiki, given that the GD isn't as much of a dedicated journaling group as something like the 75ers.

There is a link to this thread in the Green Dragon introduction, along with a bunch of other stuff.

I'm glad to see people adding their journal threads to the wiki. Please check it; I used a normal minus sign before and after your username, which is what I see in your message header.

95-pilgrim-
Feb 27, 2019, 3:43 am

>94 humouress: Ah. You have indexed it under the second letter of my username. That does avoid the problem. I was trying to create an index section heading with the first character, '-', and found that it seemed to cause an underline, rather than the representation of the character itself.

I was proposing to add - after Y, as that is where it comes in most character sets. You would prefer it is treated as an 'invisible' character?

96humouress
Feb 27, 2019, 5:32 am

>95 -pilgrim-: Oh - was that the issue? I don’t mind moving it to the end if you prefer; I can have a go (once I get home).

97YouKneeK
Feb 27, 2019, 6:25 am

>95 -pilgrim-: I’m not sure if there’s another way to do it, but you can insert a hyphen by using the html code for it:
‑

That will result in a – being displayed. I went ahead and added yours at the end. For what it’s worth, if I were looking for your name in an alphabetical list, I would have looked under the P’s without thinking about it because I would have forgotten about the hyphen. I think of you as “pilgrim”, not “hyphen-pilgrim-hyphen”. :)

Although in reality, I’d probably just hit Ctrl+F and search for Pilgrim rather than clicking/scrolling, so I’d find you quickly in any case.

Actually I have no strong preference for the location, but after internally debating whether -pi precedes other ps, follows them, or appears in the middle, I came to the conclusion that following ISO convention was the least contentious solution.

I think that was one of the primary purposes of the Green Dragon; we were trying to get away from the trolling and aggression found elsewhere. "A civil conversation and a nice pint of whatever your having" would, to my mind, describe the GD objective.

Piffle parties do have a way of expanding to consume the available piffle, of course. Bit like work, which expands to fill the time available. (Which is your actual Parkinson’s Law.)

Smallish is all very well, but I hope it will be high-quality piffle!

I'm generally better at lurking than at posting, but enjoy all the conversations going on here. Very glad that tardis got me on to LT and eventually into the Green Dragon. I, too, miss some of the people that have dropped off over the years. It's so nice to see some of them reappear!

It has just gone midnight here. I got out of ed to go downstairs to get my wife a glass of water. Just before getting back into bed I checked my phone and noticed 12 unread posts in the Master Thread.

“Aye! Aye!”, says I. “What ‘ave we got ear?”

What do I find? A piffle party in full swing.

Let this be my initial contributiin to this party. As I am exhausted it will be some hours before my next post and, unless I am very much mistaken, the master- pifflers here will have long since reached the tequisite 151 posts.

Piffle on dudes.
Be excellent to each0 other.

What? Not that kind of party?

Oh, okay...

Thank you, all! I will take care of this later in the day.

This may be a dumb question, and I guess I’m a little late, but do we really need a list in a thread now that we have the Wiki? My impression from the first sentence Sylvia added to the original post was that the wiki was intended to replace her list: “We have switched to a wiki format for the Master List of Reading Journals.”

Truly I don’t care if we have 2 lists (or even 10). I just wanted to throw out the thought that it’s a lot of extra work for one person to maintain a list that only they can edit, when we have the same list available in a format that everybody is free to edit. It’s linked to on the main group page where it’s easy to find, or people could star this thread and use the link is in the first post if they prefer to access it that way.

>155 YouKneeK: Or is the plan just to create a new post with no list but rather with a link directly to the wiki so that it’s less confusing for people who miss the first sentence and subsequent link and just jump straight to the out-dated list? If so, that makes way more sense to me. :)

>156 YouKneeK: Yes, we need people to stop looking here. My plan was to just cut and paste from the current list, but linking to it is probably a better idea. So thank you for that.

It's already linked to on the group page, but people seem to have trouble finding it, and I am not allowed to make the font different sizes, just bold.
