About the Author

Roger Zelazny was born in Euclid, Ohio on May 13, 1937. After receiving a B.A. from Case Western Reserve University and a M.A. from Columbia University, he began publishing science fiction stories in 1962. He received six Hugo awards, three Nebula awards including one in 1966 for And Call Me Conrad show more and 2 Locus awards. He died of kidney failure secondary to colorectal cancer on June 14, 1995. Lord of Light (S.F. Masterworks) by Roger Zelazny

Recommended and gifted to me as The Best Book Ever Written. I learned a lot about Hindu religion. Written at a time when the Beatles and the Stones were very into their Indian influences, the story follows the leaders (seen as gods) on a planet, their fights and abilities, to influence the inhabitants. The pun in the book is (SPOILER), the character the Shan, being given an epileptic body during a rejuvenation - 'Then the fit hit the Shan'. I found the political motivation of giving the people the power of the gods old fashioned, and the very well written fight scenes not to my taste, but can appreciate how the book must have been quite a revolutionary one at the time (1967). A Night in the Lonesome October by Roger Zelazny

Short stories don't get any better than this. Roger Zelazny is a master of his craft. Every single line here is perfect, and his dry humor strikes when you least expect it.
