Books You Couldn't Finish

merrystar: I'm possibly too old, but I found the beginning of this unreadable.

fuzzi: Despised the characters, why read about people with no redeeming qualities?

Bookmarque: HIGHLY speculative. Repetitive. Repetitive. Repetitive.

oregonobsessionz: The characters were unrelentingly depressing. They all have miserable lives, but no one is doing anything to improve their circumstances. I couldn't manage to care about any of them. I had to force myself to give this the 50 page trial run I give most books.

merrystar: the only assigned book I have ever given up on.

Bookmarque: Big city asshole and the usual small town prejudice and unpreparedness. Writer = asshat.

Bookmarque: Too disjointed and there isn't a tiny ray of goodness or hope - all is bleak, cruel and I just couldn't stand it.

Bookmarque: Gross and totally peopled with idiots. Does Scott Smith know any women?

Bookmarque: Scenes too long and choked with detail. Quirky for quirky's sake. Couldn't connect w/main character enough to wade through it all.

Jullou: I love satire and absurdism, rarely don't finish books. But I just couldn't get through this one.

Bookmarque: Too stupid. Too manipulative. Dumb characters. Like every cheap horror movie ever.

gilroy: How can one sustain a story when you change points of view every two pages? Just horrible writing

merrystar: I generally love re-told fairy tales, but I couldn't make it through this one.

Bookmarque: Just couldn't stand the brutality. Why do men do this?

Bookmarque: Adam is just too dumb for me to stick with this book.

Bookmarque: Can't write her way out of a wet paper bag. Why do I keep trying?

gilroy: This came out when the Extended Epic like Wheel of Time was popular. Wheel of Time was bad, this was worse.

Bookmarque: In my best Colonel Kurtz voice - the writing, the writing.

Bookmarque: stupid woman, stupid premise - as if it would take a year for the accountant to tell her she had no money.

Bookmarque: an onslaught of cruelty, sadism, viciousness and violence.

Bookmarque: Hateful for hatefulness's sake.

Bookmarque: Then I floundered through another pointless aside on page 47 only to impale myself on this sentence "The scene was absolutely crazy-balls." That's the best literary allusion you could come up with? Crazy-balls? What's next, amaze-balls? Or maybe the time-honored awesomesauce. Ugh.

Bookmarque: Too bleak. Dwells on the worst people do to each other. All. The. Time.

Bookmarque: So terrible I couldn't finish and returned it to Audible. Protagonist is an idiot among idiots.

Bookmarque: Can't stand the tone of this book. Too snide, too judgmental, too flip.

Bookmarque: Very info-dumpy. Narrator likes the sound of his own voice. Terrible dialog.

Bookmarque: Too oblique.

Bookmarque: oddly unfocused writing, didn't engage w/protagonist

Bookmarque: These assholes deserve each other, but not my time.

Bookmarque: Too stupid to finish.

Bookmarque: The 'action' scenes are far too drawn out and tedious. Fast-forwarding over most of them. The ordinance, weapons and tactics info is too detailed and done too often. Hey, look at all my research! The constant rules and training from dad, I can't believe it was this much and they all remember every damn detail.

Bookmarque: Can't remember anything except that there was incorrect forensic detail.
